📌 Will I Bruise? Let’s Talk Honestly…
Here I am, a few hours after having polynucleotide treatment under my eyes (using a cannula) and in my neck (using a needle), expertly done by the fabulous Mellissa at Clinetics Medispa— a highly trained and experienced Aesthetic Nurse.
And yep… I bruised.
Let’s break it down 👇
💭 So, what is a bruise?
A bruise is just a little bleeding under the skin. Even with careful technique and a blunt-tipped cannula, a tiny vessel can be nicked — which allows blood to pool in the surrounding tissue. The result? Swelling, tenderness, and a lovely shade of purple.
🕒 How long do they last?
Bruises usually start fading within 3–5 days and can take up to 10–14 to fully clear. The speed depends on the depth of the bruise, location, and your body’s healing response.
🚨 Who’s more prone to bruising?
People who:
• Take blood-thinning meds (aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oils)
• Use supplements like vitamin E or ginkgo
• Have fibromyalgia or other chronic conditions
• Are on meds like pregabalin (which I take daily for nerve pain)
Basically, while I may look like a picture of health, I’m actually falling apart behind the scenes 😂 (and very much medicated).
👉 Important: Please don’t stop any prescribed medications unless you’ve spoken to your doctor or discussed it with your practitioner. Safety first, always.
❗ Is it your injector’s fault?
Absolutely not. Even with the best technique, bruising can happen — especially if you’re on medications, have sensitive skin, or bruise easily. It’s not a mistake; it’s biology.
🛡️ What can you do to reduce bruising?
• Avoid alcohol, ibuprofen, and intense workouts 48hrs before & after
• Use ice packs gently post-treatment
• Try Arnica gel or tablets
• Book in for LED therapy like Dermalux (honestly, it helps)
🧠 The takeaway?
Bruising is normal — especially when your meds and medical history make you higher risk. It’s not a sign of bad practice, and it definitely doesn’t mean anything has gone wrong.
Be kind to your face (and your injector), prep well, and let your body do its thing. The results are worth it 💫
