Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is one of only four dedicated children’s hospital trusts in the UK and provides integrated healthcare for children and young people, including community and mental health care as well as acute and specialist services. We see children from 0-16 in most cases and in some cases up to 18. We provide a full range of services for residents of Sheffield and South Yorkshire as well as specialised services for patients from further afield. The Children's Hospital Charity exists to make an extraordinary hospital even better. We keep our specialist services special; providing the best equipment your money can buy, opening new facilities and funding vital research to change lives tomorrow. We make the clinical more comfortable; transforming the hospital space and adding the little touches that make a big difference to families. Together with all our supporters and staff, we do it for the kids.

By purchasing a snowflake this year, you can help us transform lives like 13-year-old Evan’s, whose life has changed thanks to research and innovation.

When Grimsby Town academy footballer Evan started to suffer from pain in his joints during the summer of 2022, his mum Lisa thought he just needed to rest.

Lisa explained: “Nothing we did was helping, and his symptoms quite quickly got worse. He had to stop playing football, could only walk short distances, and was struggling to get up and down the stairs. To see him so unwell and in so much pain all the time was utterly heartbreaking.”

After visiting his local hospital, Evan was referred to Sheffield Children’s and was diagnosed with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) in December 2022.

Evan’s consultant, Dr Dan Hawley, suggested taking part in a clinical research trial exploring a new treatment to help children like Evan.

Lisa added: “We are so glad we made that decision, as the results have been absolutely incredible. Evan is back to playing football every week and is pain-free. It’s given him his life back, and we will be forever grateful to both the Rheumatology and Research teams at Sheffield Children’s.”

Today we’re celebrating the amazing team behind our much-loved local food halls, Cambridge Street Collective and Cutlery Works, the Blend Family! 💙

After visiting Sheffield Children’s over a year ago, the team from Blend Family left inspired to make a difference, and that’s just what they’ve done. Through the charitable arm of the business, the Blend Culinary Foundation, they host cooking classes for patients and young charity supporters, regularly deliver pizzas to the Oncology and Haematology Ward at Sheffield Children's, raise money through their 'Cocktails for Good' campaign, and donate monthly as Children's Champions of the charity.

We can’t thank the amazing team at Blend Family enough for everything they do - we look forward to another fantastic year in partnership!

Last night was in a class of its own at the launch event for our brand-new schools network! 📚💙

The charity receives lots of brilliant support from schools across the region, and we wanted to find a way to work more closely with the staff who make that possible.

Our schools network is an opportunity for anyone working in primary or secondary education with a passion for Sheffield Children’s to come together and form their own special community.

To celebrate the launch of the network, we invited staff members from schools across the region to join the charity team at Pina in Neepsend last night.

We were so grateful to everyone who joined us for charity chat, delicious food, a few drinks, and hopefully a few laughs too.

Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity supports the life-changing and the joy-sparking work at Sheffield Children’s, and this wouldn’t be possible without the passion and dedication of our supporters.

During the evening, we shared information on all the ways schools can get involved with the charity, including the exciting opportunity to be part of the Pride of Yorkshire next summer. The network offers members access to events, exclusive fundraising opportunities, newsletters, and more, so it was great to welcome everyone and chat about what we can do together.

If you work in education and you’d like to join the network, or learn more about how you can support the charity, visit our website at sheffieldchildrens.org/schools

We’ve been celebrating 20 years of Giggle Doctors at Sheffield Children’s today! 🤩

It’s Play in Healthcare Week, and what better way to celebrate the occasion than by recognising the wacky and wonderful work of Theodora Children's Charity's amazing Giggle Doctors?

We were visited by not one, not two, but FIVE Giggle Doctors who spent the day sharing joy and laughter with patients and families across Sheffield Children’s Hospital. The Giggle Doctors work alongside our amazing Play team at Sheffield Children’s to reduce stress and anxiety, increase opportunities for play, and improve children’s experience in healthcare settings.

After a tea-riffic party where children, young people and their families were invited to try out some fabulous arts and crafts, the Giggle Doctors shared their joy across the Hospital, visiting across our wards, singing songs, giving gifts and meeting families in our Outpatients Department too!

Play is part of our DNA at Sheffield Children’s Foundation Trust – it is an important way to help children and young people their develop their confidence, fuel their imagination and creativity, and to experience joy and special moments in challenging situations.

Here’s to another 20 years of spreading joy and laughter at Sheffield Children’s!

This weekend, we held our second skydive of the year, and we loved seeing some of you take your support for Sheffield Children's to new heights! 💙🪂

24 brave skydivers joined us at Hibaldstow to take on the highest skydive in the country. Unfortunately, due to adverse weather conditions, only 12 supporters were able to complete their skydive, but we can't wait to support the other 12 to take on the challenge soon!

Together, they have raised over £11,000 so far, and that brilliant total will help make the difference for children and families at Sheffield Children's!

Thank you so much to all of our skydivers. Your support has us on cloud nine!

Meet Liz, an Occupational Therapist (OT) at Sheffield Children’s, who is advancing healthcare for children and young people through collaboration and improving access to innovative technologies.

After noticing that children with physical disabilities in mainstream school were struggling to reach their full potential, Liz was inspired to drive change.

Working in partnership with NHS South Yorkshire, Barnsley Assistive Technology Service, Sheffield City Council and the support of her team, Liz has set up and launched a service for children across Sheffield Children’s where they can discover, test, and use assistive technologies.

This is helping to improve access to education and support greater independence.

The theme for Allied Health Professionals (AHP) Day 2025 is “Driving the 3 Shifts” – hospital to community care, analogue to digital, and treatment to prevention.

With Sheffield Children’s upcoming National Centre for Child Health Technology opening in 2026, Liz hopes to extend her collaboration even further. She aims to work in partnership with industry leaders to develop the service and shape the future of child health innovation. 👏

Read more about the new service on our website. The link is in the comments below.

Have you met one of Theodora Children's Charity 's Giggle Doctors when you've visited Sheffield Children's? 🤩

It's Play in Healthcare Week, and we're celebrating 20 years of Giggle Doctors at Sheffield Children's!

Part of Theodora Children’s Charity, Giggle Doctors complement the work of our amazing Play Team, aiming to reduce stress and anxiety, increase opportunities for play, and improve children’s experience of hospitals.

To mark the occasion, we asked the fabulous Dr. Scribble twenty questions - one for each year that we’ve welcomed Giggle Doctors through our doors! She spoke all about how they create lasting memories with patients and families at Sheffield Children’s to create a healthier future for children and young people.

Take a look at our website to learn all about our Giggle Doctors!

Meet Laura!⭐

Laura is an Occupational Therapist working in the Motor Skills team at Sheffield Children’s. As part of her role, Laura works closely with children, young people and families experiencing Development Coordination Disorder (DCD).

DCD is a neurodevelopmental condition which affects motor skills in children. Also known as dyspraxia, the condition can make it more difficult for children and young people to complete everyday tasks, such as tying their shoelaces, handwriting or riding a bike. Struggling to complete these tasks can have a knock-on effect on a young person’s confidence, which could lead to withdrawal in school and other areas.

This week is Dyspraxia Awareness Week, a week which seeks to raise awareness of Dyspraxia/ Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) and provide a space for families to share their experiences and access information about the condition.

To learn more about Dyspraxia, and how Laura and her team deliver outstanding care for children and young people, please visit the Sheffield Children’s website.

4,998… 4,999… 5,000!✨

Over 5,000 children and young people have now been protected from the worst effects of flu thanks to our School Age Immunisation Service (SAIS).

But there’s lots more work to do. Our team will be visiting more schools around Sheffield over the next couple of months.

Parents and carers will receive an email or text about the flu immunisation from your child’s school around two weeks before our team visit. This will ask for your e-consent, so your child can be given the vaccine. If you don’t fill this out, then your child cannot be vaccinated.

If you would like your child to be vaccinated before their school’s session, then you can visit any of our drop-in clinics. All the dates are available on our website: https://www.sheffieldchildrens.nhs.uk/services/school-nursing/school-age-immunisation-service/
