Vegan tuna mayo pasta.
A hit for a holiday lunchtime meal 😊

• boil vegan Quorn chunks until soft
• mash Quorn chunks with a fork to create flakes
• mix with vegan mayo
• add a teaspoon of smoked salt, and pepper to taste
• add sweetcorn if desired

Serve with pasta of your choice.
Easy peasy 😃😋

It just occurred to me that many people are actually afraid to heal because their entire identity is centred around the trauma they've experienced. They have no idea who they are outside of trauma and the unknown can be terrifying".

Anyone relate?

This is definitely true of me! I've spent so long identifying as an anxious, insecure person that I feel totally lost thinking about myself without those labels, and intimidated by the person I have the potential to be!

I noticed this feeling when I developed a grounding mantra to help reduce anxiety. (I wrote about this in my blog - https://hartwoodwellbeing.wordpress.com/2020/11/09/a-grounding-mantra/ )
" I noticed an interesting reaction in myself when I was repeating this mantra each time I had an anxious thought or feeling - part of my mind was so attached to the anxiety that I almost didn't want to let go of my anxious thoughts - as if my identity was tied to being anxious (who am I, when I'm not "an anxious person"?) and being anxious is so comfortable that it could actually be scarily uncomfortable to not feel anxious for a change!"

Meditation helps, CBT helps, mindfulness helps, focusing on positive action (like giving reflexology treatments) remembering that I'm not the labels I place on myself helps 😊

This is my "I just had a dream about starting offering treatment and coaching sessions again" face.
It was a strange dream, a mixture of excitement, fulfilment and imposter syndrome 🤦🏽‍♀️

It feels like the right time is approaching and I'm really looking forward to opening my doors to clients again after restrictions are lifted 💕💪🏼

I'm particularly proud of these sausage rolls 😁

Super easy using and (flaky)
(I can't make pasty from scratch - baking is a dark art that I haven't mastered!)

We're taking them on a picnic in the park.

Borrowed from my former reflexology tutor David Wayte at Jubilee College

A new piece of Reflexology Research: The effect of foot reflexology on procedural pain before heel lancing in neonates.

Abstract:

Objective: This study was designed to investigate the effect of foot reflexology on alleviating term neonates' invasive pain caused by heel lance.

Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, 60 healthy neonates were recruited and divided into a reflexology group (n=30) and a control (n=30) group. The study design was quasi-experimental since the randomisation method was not used in the assignment of newborns to the groups. While the reflexology group received foot reflexology for an average of 20min before heel lance, the control group received no intervention. The elicited data were analysed using descriptive statistics and independent t-test.

Results: The reflexology and the control groups were similar in terms of age, gestational week, Apgar score, weight, height, and s*x (P>0.05). The Neonatal infant pain scale (NIPS) scores of the newborns in the reflexology group after the heel lance procedure were found to be significantly lower than those in the control group (P

I wonder who else gets stuck in this awful loop…?

After a particularly tricky few days, involving being over-tired, irritable and indulging in a very unhelpful bout of self flagilation, I decided to try to clear my head by writing and seeing what came up. I had a feeling that my bad mood was a self fulfilling thing, and after a little time writing and thinking, it became very clear what the problem was:
I was stuck in the Feelings Infinity Loop.

I've written in a lot more detail in my blog. You can read it at this link, https://hartwoodwellbeing.wordpress.com/2021/03/13/feelings-infinity-loop/ or go through the link in my bio.

I don't know about you, but to me, today felt like a sigh of relief - Spring seems to be finally in the air, after a long, hard winter.

It was so lovely to walk to work today with the sun shining, the sky clear and the birds singing. 🐦

Today, I'm feeling hopeful and excited about the future. 😊

Did you know.... Dried figs contain more calcium than cow milk.

If you're looking to replace your source of calcium from animal to plant-based, I'd recommend swapping the dairy for dried figs.

Figs contain 163mg of calcium each 100g, compared to 125mg of calcium in 100g of milk. They're also high in fibre and anti-oxidants.

While I was looking into the nutritional benefits, I wanted to know the environmental and human impact of the vegan alternatives I suggest because often vegan alternatives are equally problematic, albeit in different areas.

My short research into fig production showed that there is no known environmental destruction associated with fig production, making figs an even better source of calcium than milk and dairy products if we're only looking at environmental sustainability.

According to healable.com, figs are a sustainable source of food, in terms of environmental impact.

However, the human labour impact of fig production is questionable. Labourers may be exploited and work in unsafe conditions. Refugees and migrant workers are particularly vulnerable to abuse.

If we are going to buy figs, it's important to buy fair trade or ethically sourced figs from a company with a good record of workers' rights protection

Our Story

I believe that there is an intrinsic and unbreakable link between our relationship with ourselves, our connection with other people, and our relationship with the natural environment. To help build and strengthen a positive connection between these three elements, I use reflexology to promote physical well being, Access Bars Therapy to promote mental well being, and meditation to encourage a connection with the self, from where all other connections flow.

I also offer coaching and accountability in low waste living and vegan lifestyle, to enable and encourage us to make lasting lifestyle changes to positively affect our lives, our relationships and the environment.

I am a reflexology and Access Bars Therapist.

I graduated from Jubilee College, Sheffield in 2016 with a Level 5 diploma in Clinical Reflexology and I qualified as an Access Bars practitioner in 2017. I am fully insured and am a member of Professional Reflexology, the national professional body for reflexologists and complementary therapists. I have been practicing a low-waste lifestyle for over two years and I have been a mentor for the international vegan support programme Challenge 22+.
