March is Endometriosis Awareness Month. And our job as Women’s health advocates and women’s health physiotherapists is to RAISE AWARENESS amongst our followers , colleagues and the general population around what endo is and the challenges that women with this condition face
We want to shed more light on this often misunderstood condition.
Did you know that endometriosis affects around 1 in 10 women worldwide?
Did you know that the average length of time to diagnosis is 8 years
So what is it ? A very simplified explanation might be : It’s a chronic disease where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, causing a whole plethora of symptoms : here are just some
😩Pelvic pain: Chronic pelvic pain, often associated with menstruation, is a hallmark symptom of endometriosis.
🩸Painful periods: Severe menstrual cramps that may worsen over time.
🍆Pain during or after s3x (Dyspareunia) or painful in*******se
🩸🩸Heavy menstrual bleeding
😩Painful bowel movements or urination: Especially during your period
😴Fatigue: Feeling excessively tired, especially during your period
👩⚕️Infertility: Difficulty getting pregnant can be a symptom of endometriosis, though not all women with endometriosis experience infertility.
Early diagnosis and management are key in improving the quality of life for those with endometriosis. As physiotherapists, we play a crucial role in providing evidence-based interventions such as pelvic floor exercises, manual therapy, and lifestyle modifications to help manage symptoms and improve overall well-being.
❤️🩹It’s important to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and advocate for better understanding and support for women living with endometriosis. Let’s work together to better support and understand the challenges those affected by endo are facing often silently on a daily basis .
