We currently have some 3rd Year Pharmacy students with us from Bath University. Here are some tips they would like to share:
๐Ÿฅ—'It is recommended that adults in the UK consume 30g of fibre a day for a healthy digestive system. Cereals are a great way to incorporate fibre into your diet, with a typical bowl of bran flakes or porridge oats containing approximately 8g of fibre. A bonus is that they can also help control cholesterol levels.'
๐Ÿ’ง'Around 73% of the brain is composed of water, so staying hydrated is essential for cognition, concentration and memory. Top tips to improve your hydration beyond drinking water include eating water-rich foods like cucumbers and melons and drinking herbal teas.'

We are getting lots of queries regarding Meningitis vaccinations. Here is some useful information as per the UK Health Security Agency & UK Government Guidance:
๐Ÿ’‰All children under 2years old will be offered at least 2 MenB vaccinations. Over 2years old are NOT eligible.
๐Ÿ’‰Children aged 14-15years will be offered MenACWY at school - administered by the School Immunisation team.
๐Ÿ’‰Under 25's remain eligible for MenACWY (until their 25th birthday). Please contact the surgery if you would like to have this vaccination.
๐Ÿ’‰Over 25 years - NOT eligible
๐Ÿ’‰If you would like to have a vaccine but do not meet the criteria, please speak to your local pharmacy who may be able to offer this privately as we cannot offer this at the surgery.

There is currently no local outbreak of Meningitis in the Dorset area.

๐Ÿ’ง๐Ÿฅ— Nutrition and Hydration Week: 16th - 22nd March 2026 ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿ’ง

Here is some advice from Dr Liz Long regarding why we should eat whole foods:
โ€ข Any packet food with more than 10 ingredients is likely to be Ultra-processed - so it will cause your blood sugar to spike, then crash, so you'll want to eat again soon after, resulting in weight gain.
โ€ข Whole foods have more fibre, fill you up for longer and don't cause large sugar spikes in the blood stream, meaning you're much less likely to gain weight or get type 2 diabetes.

๐Ÿ’‰We are starting to invite eligible patients to our Covid Spring Booster clinic on Saturday 18th April and Wednesday 6th May, which will be held at the Surgery.

PLEASE WAIT FOR YOUR INVITE BEFORE CONTACTING US - as we need to keep the phone lines open for incoming medical queries.

Due to the volume of patients to invite, we are staggering invites. They will be going out in batches over the next few weeks by text, email and we will be calling patients who either only have landlines or who have told us they can't use the booking links.

Criteria is strict and not set by us. We are only able to vaccinate eligible patients. Eligibility can be found here: https://www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/COVID-19-vaccine/

For patients who cannot make this date, we will have some small catch up clinics sometimes after our large Saturday clinic.
