So, who is eligible for NHS orthodontic treatment? It seems like there is a dark art to qualification, but it’s actually pretty simple.
- Under 18s only
- Assessed as meeting the requirements of the Index of Treatment Need
Your dentist can refer you to the Yorkshire Orthodontic Waiting List if they think you’re likely to meet the criteria.
You then enter the waiting list for assessment, which is typically between 24 and 36 months. Your case will be allocated to a practice that has capacity when you reach the top of the list.
You will be invited for an assessment on the NHS. If you are eligible, treatment usually starts within 3-6 months. If you are not, your next option is to pay privately. Any extractions required will have to be completed by your general dentist.
If you want to know if you are likely to meet the IOTN, Michael Riley at Hopkinson Dental in Wetherby offers free assessments. Michael Riley is a highly respected orthodontist who works across NHS and private orthodontics. No pressure sales. Just options for you to consider. Treatment starts at £3400 with 0% finance available.
He is our trusted orthodontist and treats Cliff’s children at practices in Harrogate and Wetherby.
