Being a doula/birthkeeper can be a lonely job, some of these people be only ever met online. Yet when we met in the real world we felt instantly connected ✨✨✨ I think because we all have a singular goal and that’s supporting birth for all ❤️❤️

I thought a little introduction was in order as I’ve had quite a few new followers.
Each person and birth is as unique as they are and each birth supporter is unique too.
Finding one that matches your energy can be tricky so here I am….
I am unapologetically myself no chameleon here, I will be what you need me to be in the moment and will always be authentically me.
So if you are looking for a fierce, protective, soothing, calming, knowledgeable, easy going, funny, sweary birth educator or doula.
Message me, I think we will work well together ❤️

Failure to progress is inevitable of the most common ways that your birth can be sabotaged. They use a graph and if your cervix doesn’t match their picture then they will start the process of ‘augmenting labour’ this can be breaking your waters or if they have already broken putting you on a drip which contains artificial oxytocin. Babies don’t like this, so they will also suggest , encourage, force you to have a CTG monitor to ensure baby is OK (side note CTG monitors are also problematic but that’s a post for another day!) Your contractions will get stronger but also more painful so it continues the cascade of interventions. All of that trauma because of a graph of cervical dilation that has no place being used in the first place. Any birth attendant worth their salt can gauge where a person is at in their labour by watching them. And the birthing person is the true expert in the room.

Christmas can feel so overwhelming as a new parent You have a brand new baby, you are both learning the skill of feeding, you are anxious about illnesses, still recovering from birth
Yet family and friends expect you to join in the Xmas fun. Firstly it’s ok to say no!
Baby will not remember their first Xmas. In fact it can be overstimulating for them and you. All baby needs right now is a calm relaxed parent. And if arranging/attending Xmas events feels too much, don’t go!
The people who love and respect you will understand and the rest don’t matter.
Snuggle at home under the lights of the Xmas tree, baby on your chest and get someone to cook you dinner and feed you mince pies ❤️❤️❤️

Christmas is supposed to be a magical time of year. But when you are pregnant and close to your EDD pressure from your care providers and family and friends can be intense. The induction rate is high at this time of year and a lot of it is due to staffing not your or your baby’s health.
But Christmas also brings the perfect environment to hunker down and truly be in the moment, if you give yourself permission to do so.
✨Nesting under the twinkly lights, eating all the good food and watching your favourite feel good TV. Are all good for getting that oxytocin going.
✨So shut out the noise, snuggle down and enjoy the last few days/weeks of letting baby grow. And if you feel family may birth that oxytocin bubble, then you have the perfect excuse to stay home ❤️

Why do maternity services decide that the way they are treating birthing people is ok? Recently a woman told me she’d planned a homebirth, was told when she called that no midwives were available (she was in very active labour!) they suggested she go to the hospital instead. (Knowing that it was an hour in a car in the dead of night and driving rain-with the distinct possibility baby would have been born in the car enroute 😡) When she said she was staying put and would freebirth. They told her that it was dangerous….😡 Hmmm not as dangerous as having a baby in the freezing cold in the back of a car. Birth is all about choice and many more people are choosing to freebirth. Planning for every eventuality. But some people are being forced into it as there aren’t any alternatives. Things must change. But I do suggest every pregnant person do Freebirth and emergency childbirth course so if plans change you are still in control ❤️
