Last Stop of the Day – Teesside University Su***de Prevention Conference 📍

We’ve ended the day at Teesside University, joining partners, professionals, and community voices at the Su***de Prevention Conference.

Days like today remind us that su***de prevention is not the work of one organisation, but the responsibility of us all. It takes universities, workplaces, community groups, health services, and charities working together to make a real difference.

For ManHealth, it’s been an opportunity to share our work, hear new perspectives, and strengthen connections that will help us reach more men across the North East.

A huge thank you to Teesside University for hosting such an important event and to everyone who continues to push for a future where fewer families know the pain of losing someone to su***de. 💙

Together, we fight for zero su***de.

⚠️ Trigger Warning: Su***de / Crisis Support

Behind every man in crisis, there’s often someone quietly holding him up.

A partner who lies awake at night listening for signs he’s okay.

A friend who checks their phone constantly, hoping for a reply.

A colleague who notices when the jokes stop, when the smile fades, when something feels different.

If that’s you then this message is for you.

Supporting someone in crisis is brave, but it can also be exhausting, isolating, and overwhelming.

And while you’re doing everything you can to keep them afloat, it’s easy to forget that you need support too.

This video is a reminder that help is out there for the men who are struggling, and for those who walk beside them.

You don’t have to carry this weight alone.

Your patience.
Your presence.
Your willingness to stay when it’s uncomfortable because it matters more than you’ll ever know.

But remember, so do you.

Our first stop on this day is Chester le Street.

A town not without its problems, but a town that boasts an army of support that we are keen to shout and promote.

Nobody needs to suffer in silence.

Let’s break the stigma and begin having the conversations. It’s already started.....

⚠️ Trigger Warning: Su***de
This video contains real men speaking openly about their experiences of su***de. Please take care while watching.

Too many men believe they have to face life’s darkest moments alone.

Too many feel the silence, the pressure, the weight of carrying everything on their own shoulders.

In this video, you’ll hear from men who’ve been there, who’ve stood on the edge and thought there was no way forward.

But you’ll also hear what changed for them.

The impact of hope.
The strength of togetherness.
The power of camaraderie.

These men are proof that speaking out, connecting, and finding brotherhood can be the difference between despair and survival.

If you are struggling, please know that you are not weak. You are not alone. And it’s never too late to reach for hope.

We fight for zero su***de because every man’s life matters.

10/09/2025

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day.

Su***de does not discriminate.

It affects all genders, all ages, all communities. Every life lost is a tragedy, a son, a daughter, a parent, a partner, a friend.

But we also have to face a difficult truth, here in the North East, men remain at the greatest risk.

Too many are lost far too soon, often in silence, with the people around them left carrying questions that may never be answered.

At ManHealth, our focus is on men but today we stand in solidarity with everyone affected by su***de, and with every organisation working to prevent it.

We’re out and about across County Durham today, raising awareness and opening up conversations in our communities. We’ll be keeping you updated on where we are and what we’re doing.

And we’d love to hear from you too.

How are you starting conversations?

How are you helping to draw awareness to this difficult but vital topic?

If you take one thing from today, let it be this, your life matters.

Hope is real. Help is real. Change is possible.

Together, we can fight for zero su***de.

This isn’t about statistics. Or awareness days.

This is about you.

You, the partner lying awake at night, listening for signs the person you love is okay.

You, the friend who checks your phone constantly, waiting for that reply that says they made it home safe.

You, the colleague who notices when the jokes stop, when the smile fades, when something just feels different.

👉 Supporting someone in crisis is hard. It can feel lonely, confusing, overwhelming.
👉 Some days you wonder if you’re saying the right thing.
👉 Other days you’re terrified you’ll say the wrong thing.
👉 And sometimes, if we’re honest, you’re exhausted because carrying someone else’s pain is heavy.

But here’s what you need to hear: you matter in this fight.

It’s not about having the perfect words. It’s about showing up, again and again, so the person you love doesn’t feel invisible.

As World Su***de Prevention Day approaches on 10th September 2025, the headlines will come and go.

But for you, this isn’t a one day campaign. It’s daily. It’s lived. It’s real.

So to the partners, the friends, the colleagues, the lifelines:
⚡ You are not failing because you can’t fix it all.
⚡ You are not weak for feeling tired.
⚡ You are not alone in carrying this weight.

If you take nothing else from this, take this: you are part of their hope.

And sometimes, hope is enough to get someone through to tomorrow.

Keep talking. Keep listening. Keep being there.

And please remember, you also deserve care, compassion, and support. Because those who hold others up need holding too.

Trigger warning topic of su***de.

You won’t read this on the front page of the papers.

It won’t trend because it isn’t doom and gloom.

But this is what a true hero looks like.

Dan Shillito.💙

An ordinary man, a lorry driver, just doing his job… until he did something extraordinary.

While driving on the UK’s roads, Dan spotted someone attempting to take their own life and he acted.

Dan drove his lorry beneath the bridge, climbed onto the roof, and held that person until the police arrived. For more than 20 minutes, he kept them alive.

He saved a life.

Dan, you’re a real life superhero. We hope your children grow up knowing just how incredible their dad is, a genuine lifesaver.

Please share this far and wide. Let’s make sure his employers, his colleagues, and his community know exactly what he did. He deserves recognition because not everyone would do what he did.

Respect to you, Dan Shillito.

World Su***de Prevention Day – 10th September.

Every year the same headline comes around: “su***de is a mental health issue.”

Let’s be honest… that’s not the full story.

Yes, mental illness can play a part. But for so many men, su***de is about life kicking them in the teeth.

👉 The bloke whose marriage has collapsed and suddenly only sees his kids at weekends.
👉 The man made redundant who’s staring at the mortgage bill.
👉 The lad who goes home to four silent walls every night.

These aren’t medical diagnoses. They’re life transitions. And when society tells men to “man up” and there’s nowhere to turn, despair takes root.

What makes the difference? Hope.

Hope that tomorrow can be better than today. Hope that someone gives a damn. Hope that they’re not invisible.

At ManHealth, we see it every week. Men walk into our groups broken, convinced they’ve got no way forward. What changes things isn’t a textbook or a lecture, it’s another man saying: “I’ve been there, mate. You’re not on your own.”

That flicker of hope saves lives.

So let’s stop pretending su***de is only about mental health. Su***de prevention is about rebuilding hope in relationships, in work, in community, in life.

This World Su***de Prevention Day, let’s remember:
⚡ Hope saves lives. Without it, men give up. With it, men fight on.
