I have been practicing Colonic Hydrotherapy and Natural medicine since 2008. I have used natural therapies to help me over come digestive issues, hormonal issues - PCOS and fertility, skin complaints and mental health. I practice naturopathy -Nutrition, Iridology and Herbal Medicine along with Colonic Hydrotherapy. I often use functional medical testing and food intolerance testing to aid my clients recovery. I practice from a room at the side of my house in Shoreham by Sea.

I am writing a series of blogs and podcasts about the menopause for mid life men by a mid life man.

In this next blog, I am looking to give some simple advice to guys, and have 2 quick questions if I may:

This is not a sorry for your loss message, ive been there.

This is a 'thank you for my gain'.

I must thank for reaching out me when this happened. For opening my eyes to the knowledge of genetics.

I thank our first son, Sprout, for allowing us to have Bodhi and Sonny. I thank him for paving a path for me to grow in so many ways I never knew possible.

From loss comes life.

As a mum, oh my! There is parts of me I would never have known about. There is so much love and happiness in me everyday...... and also anger, frustration, sadness... the emotions can be overwhelming.

As a naturopath I am now studying nutrigenetics. It is so amazing to see how nutrition and lifestyle can support the body at such a core level.

Many people have heard of the MTHFR gene, which I have. In children, this can present as ADHD and autism, they may have chromosome birth defects, cleft palate, tounge tie. A mother may have multiple miscarriage... plus more

Pregnant mothers with this gene should take folate, and forms of this.... NOT folic acid...

But... this is not the only gene, we have around 20,000! They all work together and make us who we are.

Nerodiversity is on a huge increase, we all have some form, I believe. Could this be down to our environment and genes?

Yes cleansers!!!! We have made it. Amazing how 5 days can go from being soo long... to completed.

We jumped on the stages of fasting and hopefully my cleansers are now educated to keep the health benefits going. Yes when they eat some "weight" will gain but they now hold the power for further body fat loss if this is their goal.

It's not all about fat loss.

We lowered insulin. High insulin is a huge health risk factor. It causes inflammation and stops mitochondria / cell function working optimally. High blood sugar is the number 1 reason for non alcoholic fatty liver disease.

We stopped this and began reversing this by entering ketosis.

Learning to use ketones for energy has amazing health benefits.

Good health comes from meabolically switching from using food for energy to ketones and switching back.

Day 4 Community Lifestyle Cleanse
We're homeward bound.

After 72 hours of fasting there is not much supportive evidence of health improvements.

We will keep the cleanse going and some will be introducing foods that keeps them in ketosis to keep fat burning, taming the immune system and improving cell energy -mitochondria.

I'm choosing to keep cleansing without food to get optimal cleanse effects for the start of this year.

Day 3 Lifestyle Community Cleanse.

Blood sugar and ketones low allowing for our our body to metabolically switch from using food for energy to ketones and body fat.

In the body this means:
Low insulin leading to low inflammatory markers.
Autophagy - cell renewal
Apoptosis- negative cells are dying
Gut repair
Body fat loss
Stem cell activation - new white cells are being made.
Dopamine is increasing
