Loving that this gorgeous galleon is still here in Shoreham… hope everyone gets a chance to see her! And… did you know sailing and Osteopathy have a lot in common? Think of the masts of the ship as our skeleton, the ropes and lines that hold the sails are our muscles, tendons and ligaments, the sails hold the wind (air) to power the ship forward, as our lungs when given space to expand (if our joints and muscles are in good condition) take in oxygen to give us life and energy … But rain, storms, too much wind or too little can be likened to external forces we can’t control but have to adapt to (all those life stresses and pressures, or physical injuries…).. not a perfect analogy but we like it… ☺️ and btw one of our osteos, Lene, is a keen sailor herself!

We have definitely been using the water cooler a lot recently! It’s true that we all need to hydrate more in this hot weather and when we are exercising, our after a massage or Osteopathy treatment… but as you sip your H2O at SOC, think of those who don’t have the luxury of a choice between tap or filtered… for whom every drop is a luxury…

It’s quite fitting - smack‑dab in the middle of summer, when hot weather makes easy access to refreshing water more vital than ever - that we have some

Remembering dear Pat Walker whose funeral it is this morning. Without Pat on reception and her amazing positivity, common sense, humour, resilience and wonderful laughter and warmth, SOC would not be here today… She was the lynchpin between AOC (Andy and Pat Bellamy’s osteopathic clinic before they downsized to Mill Lane, for those who don’t know the history!) and SOC, embracing technology and computer databases!! We and SO many loved and will really miss you Pat. X###x💕

Now, one of Osteopathy’s main principles is that the “rule of the artery is supreme”… so I think we will all be drawing inspiration from the Blood Moon! It’s also good for o physical and mental health to get early morning light - it helps to regulate our sleep cycle and the circadian rhythms of our hormones and other body systems. So let’s all look to the west at 6.20am tomorrow morning!!

The total lunar eclipse will occur on March 14-15, 2025. It will last approximately 65 minutes, during which the Moon will shift from its usual bright white to a deep red or brown shade.

Happy International Women’s Day! Celebrating women and girls everywhere, supporting the fight for their health and education… SOC finds it rather lovely that the very first School of Osteopathy, opened in 1893, opened its doors to both women and men equally. AT Still stated “women are admitted on the same terms as men. It is the policy of the school that there shall be no distinction as to s*x, and that all shall have the same opportunities” - unlike conventional medical schools of the time. Indeed some of the greatest pioneers in Osteopathy were women!

The Feminine Touch showcases the struggle for equality in medicine.

The scaffolding is up again!!! Thanks to WS Dean and Sparks Scaffolding for sorting out our guttering after a massive chunk fell off the building in a storm a few weeks ago - luckily late at night so no injuries to passers-by 🙏!! Weather is perfect for Wayne and Lewis today - fuelled by Belgian buns from Truffles (one even had TWO cherries on top…) …

We all know the knee bone’s connected to the… thigh bone (come on everyone, sing along!!) - but did you know your tongue is connected to your toes?!!

Tongue and toes are connected!

From birth, your tongue is actually connected to your toes through an intricate network of connective tissue known as fascia.

If your tongue is not resting correctly in your mouth due to mouth breathing, things can get out of alignment in your mouth and the rest of your body.

Tongue posture can lead to a foot imbalance and vice versa because the tongue guides all myofascial continuity structures that run from the inner arch of the foot up through the middle of the body to the tongue and jaw muscles.

When the tongue sits on top of the palate, it seals the oral cavity and holds the throat open like a tent. These muscles support the neck, keep your posture straight, help you breathe, and maintain your posture upright.

Your tongue also acts as a rudder and support system through a fascial line, and when the tongue is down, we breathe through our mouth, and the head falls forward due to lack of support, which leads to poor posture and increased energy expenditure.

For better core support and spinal, hip, and leg strength, you need to work on your tongue posture!

Try these swallowing exercises:
1. Extend your tongue to the bumpy part on the top of your mouth right behind your teeth.
2. Then curl your tongue toward the back of your mouth as far as possible.
3. Hold for a few seconds.
4. Repeat five times.

In addition to this, a Functional Activator is a great tool that can be used to improve neck posture through tongue positioning.

Data indicates that ANY exercise (including dancing) is better at treating depression than just taking an SSRI.

So, if a doctor tries to give you medication without offering other solutions, please make sure you ask questions. Your health and happiness may literally depend on it.

The study was published this week in BMJ, and it revealed that dancing is the *most* effective exercise for alleviating depression symptoms.

After analyzing 218 studies involving over 14,000 participants, researchers found that dancing outperformed medications and other physical activities including walking, jogging, yoga, and strength training.

Just how significant were the results?

For this measure, a small effect is considered 0.2 to
