Sleep is a precious commodity😴💵
Supplements, pillow sprays, bath salts, blue tooth eye masks, meditation apps etc etc… but what is the true cost of a good night’s sleep??
And what if one of your main sleep disruptors is stress or tension? Recently, I’ve enjoyed practising more Yin Yoga which is why I completed an additional training last year and have added this to my teaching schedule.
An evening deep-dive into long, relaxing stretches combined with calming meditation and breathwork actually can prepare you to go off to dreamland - and stay there.
Positive post-yin sleep feedback from my students reinforces this.
Next classes: 21st May and 18th June 6.15-7.30pm in my tranquil home studio, spaces are very limited. And the cost? Invest in rest for just £18.

Two of my students nailing their journey to handstand via a Jenga of yoga bricks! Most yoga inversions aren’t “ta-da” moments, the proof is in the prep!
Just some of the fun this morning at my Monthly Move & Meditate class. Challenges are balanced with well-earned relaxation, today we focused on breath work for vagus nerve and parasympathetic nervous system activation.
Maybe you’ll join us next time? It’s the first Thursday of the month, in my lovely home studio, usually a group of just 4, so spaces are very limited. Upcoming dates now open: 7th May and 4th June 9.15-10.25am (drop me a message to book).
See you on the mat! Lucy x

Let me explain…
The Glucose Biosensor monitors your blood glucose response. As part of a group, advised by nutritionist Kat , I wore this device constantly for 2 weeks, logging food and drink intake, exercise and stressors.
My motive? Curiosity! As a yoga teacher, I’m fascinated by how our unique bodies work on many levels.
Here’s some of what I learnt from my experience or others, the expected and the unexpected:
▫️It’s strongly linked not just to what I eat but when and how.
▫️Three meals a day, well-timed/proportioned/balanced (protein, fibre, healthy fats, carbohydrate) is optimal for more energy, feeling balanced, better sleep.
▫️No need to suck out all the joy: occasional treats like cake, alcohol, coffee were (luckily!) tolerated in moderation when combined with the well-structured meals.
▫️‘Healthy’ is deceptive: my biggest ‘spike’ wasn’t cake, it was crispy duck salad or to be exact the sweet chilli dressing (photo 4). Gail’s sweet treat a very close runner-up🤭
▫️Positive impacts: movement (even a short walk) directly after a meal. Regular yoga practice for physical and mental ‘even keel’. The affects of stress are real AND spike-inducing! e.g. presenting at a conference (not me😉) caused a huge spike!
▫️Some ‘stressors’ are friendly e.g. exertive exercise or my alternated sauna and ice bath session (photo 5 zigzags!)
▫️My night-wakings are not glucose-related (🤔back to the drawing board!) but low glucose plunges caused waking for others in the group.
This is not a pitch - I was a paying client - and it’s not designed to replace the advice of a qualified nutritionist, I’m just sharing my journey for anyone, like me, who finds it interesting! Lucy x

What is it? A High to Low Plank. Often a transition between Downward Dog and Cobra or Upward Dog backbend. A blend of strength, alignment and coordination.
Demo’d here by my 1:1 student, in classes this week, we workshopped this using props (2 bricks). Why?
A common misconception is the need to drop to a (very) low plank, with shoulders hovering just off the ground.
Instead, to maximise safety and stability and avoid strain on rotator cuff/front shoulder tendon/connective tissue, it’s optimal to keep the shoulders at the height of the elbows, forming a 90° angle. For most, two upright yoga bricks under the shoulders is a good prompt.
Other cues to reinforce stability/alignment:
▶️Adapt with the knees down if full Plank is too challenging
▶️Engage abdominal muscles
▶️Adduct/hug in the upper arm bones towards your sides
▶️Try different hand positions: shoulder width or a bit wider and/or minor external rotation of hands to suit your body. It’s not one-size-fits-all
▶️Try a yoga belt looped just above the elbows (not shown)
Any question? Fire away below ⬇️ or come and workshop this and more in my studio.

Look ahead to January, three guesses how might you be feeling? Relieved? Refreshed? Depleted? Or………… ? [fill in the blank]
I’m guessing you may deserve a little me time. Your body’s ‘fight-or-flight’ response may be in overdrive during all the festivities creating tiredness, restricted movement, knots, tension headaches…
So I’ve teamed up with reflexologist and massage therapist Melanie of for our ‘Restore Your Glow’ evening.
😌 a yin-inspired yoga class, soothing body and mind
😌 a head/facial yoga massage workshop
😌 movement, breathwork and practical tips to ease trigger points, relieve tension, boost your circulation and restore your natural glow.
Also we are delighted to be fundraising (100% of proceeds!) for our venue, Shoreham Village Hall, in gratitude to this wonderful asset that provides a vital backbone for our community.
Cost: £25 includes a tasty treat plus a goody bag to take home. Available as a Christmas gift voucher for a loved one (or drop a hint for yourself!). Three-quarters of spaces already gone.
To book: comment⬇️, DM Lucy, link in my bio or Story.
And breathe…
