From today, hundreds of thousands of children will start to be offered protection against chickenpox as part of the free, routine NHS childhood vaccinations.

GP surgeries will contact families to arrange appointments.

MMRV is now part of the NHS routine childhood vaccination programme, replacing the MMR vaccine.

It protects against measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox.

Chickenpox is very common and can sometimes lead to serious complications, so vaccination helps reduce the risk of serious illness as children grow.

You don’t need to do anything — your GP will be in touch when your child is due.

⚠️ Resident Doctors’ Strike: 17–22 December ⚠️

Resident doctors will strike for 5 days from 7am Wednesday 17 December to 7am Monday 22 December.

We are prioritising emergency and acute care, so patients needing urgent treatment will still be seen.
