Are you getting ready to send you child to nursery or school next week?
Have you considered what food and drink items to put in their lunchbox? 🥪 🍇 🍅 🧀 🍓 🥒

If you’re packing a lunch box, as well as sandwiches, wraps, rice or pasta why not add healthy items such as -
• bite-sized fresh fruit or vegetables such as carrot sticks, cucumber and tomatoes
• blueberries, strawberries or halved grapes

Alongside items such as -
• hummus
• crumpets
• eggs
• plain yoghurt
• low-fat cheese
which are great tooth friendly alternatives too.

Remember plain water 💧 and plain milk 🥛 are the only tooth friendly drinks for children in between meals.

🦷 Is Your Child Grinding Their Teeth? Here's What You Should Know!

It can be quite worrying to hear your child grinding their teeth, especially when it’s loud! 😬 But don’t worry, teeth grinding (also known as bruxism) is common in children and teenagers, particularly during sleep. It often stops when they reach adulthood.

👶 Why does it happen?
Children may grind their teeth for a variety of reasons; the most common reason is when new teeth come through. The good news is that in most cases, it’s not something that needs treatment and usually resolves on its own.
🛑 When do we treat it?
Usually teeth grinding is only treated later in life if it starts causing problems like tooth wear, jaw pain, or sleep disruption. For children and teenagers, it’s usually harmless.

💬 If you're ever unsure or concerned, reach out to your dentist for more advice.

Is your child starting school in September?📕

Your child's journey to school starts at home.
All children develop at their own pace. When it’s time to start school, some children may need more help developing new routines than others.

Here are some tips and hints that can help 😊
👶 Try to stop using dummies and/or bottles before starting school
🍪 Keep sugary foods and drinks to mealtimes and not last thing at night
🪥 Brush teeth with a fluoride toothpaste twice a day (you’ll need to supervise this until they are at least 7)
💦 Spit toothpaste out, don’t rinse with water
🛏️ Going to bed around the same time each night, waking up in time to get ready for school

There’s lots you can do at home to build your child’s confidence and independence, helping them feel emotionally and practically prepared to start school.
