Next months Living Well Session is coming around fast!

There are still spaces left to book contact the team on 01743 492424 or email sath.lwbc@nhs.net

The Living Well Sessions are free to attend and aim to open up discussion about small changes you could make in your life to help with fatigue, physical activity, emotional wellbeing and nutrition.
The day aims to offer support, share experiences and take ideas as to safely self-manage these things away from the hospital setting.
We understand that it can be a little overwhelming at times and a lot of the people who have attended have left feeling reassured and empowered with knowledge and things to try for themselves.
All sessions run 10am to 3pm

Have you been invited to take part in the National Cancer Patient Experience Survey (NCPES)?
The NHS wants to make sure patients have a good experience of care. Getting feedback from patients helps us improve and give patients what they need.
The NCPES asks cancer patients (16 years and older) about their experiences of care. Their feedback helps us to improve cancer services across England. If a patient received treatment for cancer in the hospital as an inpatient or day-case and left hospital between April and June 2025, they may be invited to take part in the survey.
The NHS and cancer charities use the results to find out what is working well and what needs to improve. National and local NHS teams can then work with patients to make changes.
The 2025 survey has started in November 2025 and the results will be available in the summer of 2026. For more information, visit the National Cancer Patient Experience website: https://www.ncpes.co.uk/
There is also information and some FAQs on the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Cancer Information, Support & Wellbeing app (under the Information tile). If you require any help in downloading the app, please contact the Personalised Care Team:

One of our proudest achievements was starting, along with the male volunteers, the Men Like Us cancer support group. For any man living with or affected by cancer, this walk in support group offers a safe space to talk about anything that is on your mind. Led by some of the programme's male volunteers, the support group has gone from strength to strength, now taking place in Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Telford.

Since forming, the group has been shortlisted for a Picker Experience Network Award in the category 'Personalisation of Care' and actually won the UK Men's Sheds Award in the 'Partnership' category for it's work with the Shrewsbury Men’s Shed (along with other amazing organisations and charities including Lingen Davies Cancer Support.

This group would not be what it is today without the hard work, dedication and commitment from our fabulous volunteers. Originally Graham, Mark and, Martin, the Men Like Us group has grown into a group that is now being recognised elsewhere regionally as a successful model to support men living with or affected by cancer.

This year we have welcomed another two men to the volunteering team, Derek and Alan. We are incredibly lucky to have so many men wanting to grow this group further; here's to 2026!

We couldn't do the work we do without our dedicated and incredible volunteers who give up their time to support what we do. We just want to take a moment to thank those who have joined the programme in order to support others living with and affected by cancer.
By bringing their own lived experience to the team, we have been better able to gain insight from them, ensuring we listen to them and others with lived experience to help shape anything we develop as a team.

In 2026, we hope to grow our volunteering team; creating new opportunities for people to get involved and promote the importance of personalised care throughout the pathway as well as for those living with and beyond cancer.
If you are interested in joining our volunteering team and working with us, please email Leah or Katey at sath.lwbc@nhs.net

Urgent Community Response Teams Helping Keep People Out of Hospital This Winter
Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin’s 2-Hour Urgent Community Response (UCR) service is working hard this winter to help people stay safe and independent at home – and avoid unnecessary hospital visits.
New for this year, the service is open from 8am right through to midnight (last referral 11pm), seven days a week, 365 days a year. This extended availability means more people can get urgent help at home, even late in the evening, reducing pressure on busy emergency and hospital services.
The UCR team provides an urgent assessment within two hours for people in a health crisis who don’t need an ambulance or hospital admission. The multidisciplinary team are able to assess and treat urgent healthcare needs that require a two hour to meet a person’s health and social care needs in their own home.
Our highly skilled team includes advanced clinical practitioners, district nurses, physiotherapists, paramedics and pharmacy technicians. They can assess and treat urgent healthcare needs, provide lifting equipment if you’ve had a fall, and review your medication.

Typical conditions suitable for a two-hour urgent community response include, but are not limited to:
• Falls – including those where lifting equipment is needed
• Sudden infections – such as chest, urine or skin infections
• Flare-ups of long-term conditions – like COPD, diabetes or Parkinson’s
• Frailty or sudden decline in health
• Problems passing urine or urgent catheter care
• Minor wounds – for example, cuts that need closing
• Pain linked to a diagnosed condition
• Urgent end-of-life or palliative care support
• Support for people with COVID who are clinically stable
• Alternative to an ambulance – following discussion with a clinician
Referrals can be made by health and care professionals. Over 70% of people receive help within two hours.

Referrals can be made by health and care professionals. Not by patients or carers directly.
