Yoga Kind

Yoga Kind Yoga Kind offers yoga classes within Shropshire (on a bespoke basis + one to ones). The practice covers postures, relaxation and healing breathing work.

I have many years' experience. My aim is to share the wonders of yoga with you. My mission is to help people experience the wonderful healing and calming powers of yoga, whether that be through asana – challenging or restorative, yoga breathing/ pranayama, or relaxation – the combination of all practices reap the results. Using my methodical, step by step and clear approach to teaching, I aim to

help others experience yoga only to find that it is a real ‘cure-all’ for life’s challenges. I also teach some of the spiritual aspects of yoga and impart my esoteric knowledge, gained over many years. What kind of yoga is on offer? It’s “kind yoga” hence the name “Yoga Kind”. Be kind to yourself – you don’t need to execute a perfect pose as it appears in the text book and yoga is not a “one size fits all” pursuit – rather, the aim is to be present, experiencing all the sensations that a yoga pose (asana) brings to the body and mind and to know how far to yield into it. All you need is a wish to find agility and ease in body and mind – this all comes from within yourself. We are all on a journey including the yoga teacher! A yoga teacher is a facilitator and assists in helping you to enquire about your own body, mind and breath. Many people think that you have to be very supple to practise yoga - that is not the case, we practise in order to become more supple, working at what our own individual body is able to do comfortably! The practice of yoga is a wonderful gift – the resulting decluttering and stilling of the mind brings peace, energy and healing.

My areas of special interest are the health of the spine and the breathing practices - relaxation is always included and I teach a lot about yoga in general along the way - all relatable and helpful information. I specialise in helping with maintaining back health and dealing with common ailments such as sciatica and sacroiliac problems, post-herniated disk, compromised posture and so on.

I like to share the wonderful practices that I have developed over 36 years of practice.

I also offer "one to ones" if you want to have your own practice that you can do at your leisure at home whenever it suits you.

There are many factors to consider when choosing a yoga class to attend regularly over time. You can enhance your spirituality but consider whether the physical yoga (poses) are soundly taught? It is important that breathing work - leading to pranayama - manipulation of the body's energies - must be taught by an experienced teacher. See "Choosing a yoga class" on my website which can be accessed from the Information page.

This last week our class was on knees, most often requested for a workshop theme. The beauty of yoga is that the pace of the class - with longer holds - will allow for more attention to critical alignment of the knee joints. If you keep attending class and doing the standing poses with correct alignment, you will strengthen all the muscles above and below the knee joint and thus benefit it. Class members were also shown how to use the props to help with weight-bearing on the knees and with discomfort experienced when stretching. Yoga is the answer - no more gyp with the hip, comfort and ease for the knees!! etc. etc.. :)))

The Vagus Nerve - we stimulate it during yoga practices (particularly breathing) to bring on 'rest and digest'' rather than 'fight or flight'. The vagus nerve, also known as the vagal nerves, are the main nerves of your parasympathetic nervous system. This system controls specific body functions such as your digestion, heart rate and immune system. When we start yoga at a young age, we may be focusing on having a flexible body. We can continue looking for agility as we go through life but we may also discover the myriad health benefits which are a by product of regular practice. And all the tools we need for healing are 'within'.

This week's class has an anatomical bias and is all about knee health - correct alignment in yoga practice will protect the knees (particularly in standing poses when the knee is bent and there is weight over the leg (e.g. extended side angle - Parsvakonasa). I show how you can adapt poses to protect the knees when kneeling and I also show how to stretch and strengthen the muscles above and below the knee, all in an enjoyable class that includes calming and healing breathing and soothing relaxation. :))

Great news on payment terms! :))
I charge in blocks of 5 @ £50 and if you attend all classes you get 7.5 hours of yoga @ just over £6 per hour. Even if you attend 4, you will be paying £8.33 per hour. I encourage you to work around class times as the more classes you attend the more benefit you will get. If you drop in occasionally, such as attending once in a block of 5, the fee is £12. See below:
I take care to check my fees are sound and not over current market prices and so I looked at the site of a friend that I started yoga with in 1989 - she is teaching, too, and charges as follows:
15 week term costs £150 paid in advance (possible to pay in 2 instalments). When space is available you can attend at a PAYG basis - cost £13 per session.
So..... all good :))

The lotus is thought of as a symbol of human consciousness on the path to spiritual enlightenment. This beautiful flower represents being fully grounded in earth, yet aspiring towards the divine. The mud which roots the lotus flower is said to be symbolic of our attachments and desires. But the way that water droplets easily slide off the petals of the lotus flower is said to be symbolic of detachment. It is said that the lotus flower’s unfolding petals suggests the expansion of our soul. The lotus flower is a symbol of the purity of our body, speech, and mind.
Our minds are ego-driven and we live in this world with all our desires and attachments and 'wrong thoughts' at the forefront. This is called avidya - ignorance. But through the practice of yoga, when the self and the mind are in clear communication the vision becomes 'true'. The practice of yoga helps you to come home to your 'true self'.
