Hello friends of Shrewsbury Parkinson's. If you’re thinking that you might want to come along and sit in at the next committee meeting, please be aware that it’s at a new meeting place this time round.
It’s been decided to try the Community Space at the Tesco Extra Superstore (on the main road out to Battlefield, about three miles from the centre of town). The big advantage of it is that it is
properly accessible to anyone with mobility problems, and… it’s free! You wouldn’t believe how hard it has been to find a meeting room that is both cheap/free and accessible. Thank
you, Tesco!
There is also a bus-stop just outside, and (of course) masses of parking. The upshot of all this is that those members who were put off joining the committee because of the issues with our previous meeting rooms should now feel more welcome ...

We met so many lovely people on Friday 10th April when we celebrated World Parkinson's Day (a day early) in Shrewsbury Town Square - including the Mayor who temporarily looked after the obedient little dog while her owner took the photo! Thanks if you stopped to chat, or to help spread the message round town on a blue balloon - or very generously add to the collection. We raised a staggering £500.00 ... thank you Shrewsbury!

Tomorrow, Monday 6th April, Shrewsbury Parkinson's UK, will be at the Sports Village, Sundorne Road, Shrewsbury SY1 4RQ for a table tennis session. All equipment is provided - including our "robot coach" which helps you improve your game or means you can play sitting down! We will be there from 10.30am till 12.00 noon - friends and carers welcome ... and there's a cafe should they (or you!) fancy a breather! No need to book, just turn up and tell reception that you're with the Parkinson's group. See you there!

Thanks to all who came along for our branch's Annual Celebration Meeting on Wednesday.
We heard a report about how the past year had gone (a wonderful year!), a summary of our finances (in good health), and a good look at (most of the) new committee - now eleven strong . Once these preliminaries were over, we turned to the main course: a music & singalong session led by musician Mike, who is one of the group’s great supporters. Thanks too to Jackie Conn, the Parkinson’s UK regional adviser who turned up especially for the occasion… she fielded a number of questions at the end of the meeting.
Pic… musician Mike Ball, standing in front of the members of the current committee.

Tomorrow, Monday 16th February, is the third Monday in the month ... so don't forget Shrewsbury Parkinson's will be playing Table Tennis at the Shrewsbury Sports Village, Sundorne Road from 10.30am - 12.00 noon. Everyone welcome (members, carers and friends), all equipment is provided and it's FREE.
We now have a 'robot' machine, which sends off shots, one after the other, down the table, so you can play alone, and even sitting down if you want. In the video, Christine and Albert are playing as a doubles pair against the robot. And they say they got most of the shots back!!
