That's a wrap for my Mountain Leader Expedition work for 2025 for Paul Poole Mountaineering . It was a nice change to be training instead of assessing and the weather stayed dry too, well at least for the first day. Overnight the weather decided to misbehave and there was high winds, rain and hail to contend with on Day 2.

Just need to hang the kit out to dry and I can then relax.

Well that's a wrap for another first aid course for Arthog Outreach. Lots of self learning today evaluating techniques to sort out various issues.

A slightly warmer day today.

Well it was a bit of a chilly outdoor first aid course today but it didn't stop these hardy candidates getting stuck into the practical sessions. There was much discussion on whether it was warmer inside classroom or outside the classroom 😁.

Today the HSE has released the Annual Workplace Health & Safety Statistics.

These statistics show that 1.9m workers suffered from work-related ill health in 2024/25. The figure is similar to recent years, but higher than the levels recorded in 2018/19 prior to the pandemic.

HSE said that mental health conditions remained the main driver, with 964,000 workers reporting stress, depression or anxiety that was “caused or made worse by work” during the period reviewed to the end of March 2025.

Just back from a Scout Association Assessor Workshop. Great to meet other assessors and discuss alternative ways of assessing. It will also act as CPD to keep my assessor appointment valid too.

That's a wrap for wet and wild mini adventure for Arthog Outdoor Education Centre. The Year 6 group showed great resilience as they got stuck in to their scrambling, gorge walking, raft building and beach exploration activities.

On the joys of working for yourself!
Today, I was a developing a Driving For Work Policy, which is now a legal requirement for organisations that has anyone that drives for work (employee or subbie). To be honest, I didn't know where to start but my good friend Chris Garland Training pointed me in the direction of the Driving For Better Business Website https://www.drivingforbetterbusiness.com/ which has a fantastic free portal for you to produce your own Driving For Work Policy.

After a few issues (user error) some 50 minutes later, I now have a Driving For Work Policy and have meet my statutory requirements. The portal can also notify when your Policy need to be renewed and if there are any changes in the law that will affect your policy.

I just now need to disseminate this information and carry out some random compliance checks on the Grey Fleet Drivers.

After a week off, its back to work with a fairly relaxed week of activities and then a spot of CPD to keep my Scout Association Assessor role valid.

A slight wet and windy day on the Long Mynd teaching navigation but these conditions really brought home the importance of efficient navigation strategies and implementing them well!

While waiting to warm up back home, I have finally completed the final draft of my NEBOSH NG2 Assessment, well ahead of the 10 December 2025 deadline. I will sit on it for a few days so I can do a final check and then I cam submit it.
