What’s Occurred and What’s Occurring in 2025 and 2026

Here art CHMAS Training, we are extremely pleased to say we have had another good year and are extremely grateful to all our Clients and Participants who have chosen us for their outdoor training.

What’s Occurred in 2025 for CHMAS Training!
CHMAS Training has very much enjoyed being part of the delivery team for:

32 first aid courses (EFAW, FAW, Paediatric & Outdoor)

2 DofE Expeditions (Bronze Expeditions)

14 Mountain Training Courses
(Mountain Leader, Lowland Leader & Camping Leader)

11 Activity Residentials

Once again, we have extended our Client Base, and we are extremely pleased with how our first aid course provision is developing. For personal development, I updated my ILS Course to maintain my FREC4 first aid qualification, attended multiple CPD events and successful completed a NEBOSH Health & Safety Course. I also managed to squeeze in a personal trip to Morocco to ascend Toubkal.

What’s Occurring in 2026
The 2026 order book already includes thirty first aid courses, nine activity residentials, and several confirmed Mountain Training courses. I will also be allocating time to go trekking in Nepal.

A new addition for CHMAS Training will be Mental Health First Aid Courses as I passionately believe in the restorative power of the outdoors.

Thank you to everyone who as used our services, you have all been amazing and I hope 2026 brings you lots of adventures, memories, friendships

A rare map moment is moving on. 🧭

This Saturday, 13 December, England says goodbye to a phenomenon centuries in the making. The rare alignment of the three norths - true north, magnetic north and grid north - leaves England at Berwick-upon-Tweed after three historic years together.

Events like this haven’t been recorded since the 1600s - and once it departs, the alignment won’t return for hundreds of years. Next stop? Scotland in 2026, before disappearing back into the North Sea.

Will this change how you navigate? No. Good map and compass users already account for the differences between magnetic and grid north.

But as rare moments go, this one’s worth marking on the map.

Where will you be following the three norths from? 📍

Continued Professional Development (CPD)

I'm getting a bit too long in the tooth to do further advanced qualifications but I do like to keep the ones I have current and up to date by attending regular CPD events. Just recently, I have attended some corkers!

Nature Connection and Mental Health for Outdoor Practitioners by Leading in Nature. Both expertly delivered by Mia Walker and gave me some great hints and tips to include in my own sessions.

Mountain Training Course Provider and Course Director by Simon Patton of MTC. Lots of think to think about and looking forward to receiving a few updates in January.

I have also booked myself and Senior Management on the History in the Hills and Welsh Plant Names and Stories being run by Mike Raine: Notes from the Hill which I know will really be informative.

I have also booked onto Dr Hannah Lock's online Cold Injuries course too.

What are you doing in terms of CPD or what have you done that you thought was really useful?

Just received a lovely email about my first aid course delivery. Really chuffed to receive this 😁

"Hi Chris

Just wanted to drop you a quick note to say thanks again for the REC outdoor first aid course you ran for us at Yr Hafod over the weekend.

Talking to other candidates we all agreed it was a fantastic and very professionally run course and we would all be happy to recommend you to others needing outdoor NGB first aid training. The balance between ‘class and grass’ was perfect and reinforced the difficulties of doing first aid outdoors away from civilisation!

Once again thank and look forward to the next one".
