Stoney Stretton Physiotherapy

Stoney Stretton Physiotherapy Stoney Stretton Physiotherapy is run by Chartered Physiotherapist Victoria Wadlow. I also have a huge interest in Pilates to keep the old core strong!

Covering all aspects of physiotherapy, Victoria specialises in Pilates and sporting injuries along with seeing a huge variety of musculoskeletal disorders. I qualified in 2004 from Keele University and went to work in the NHS in various Liverpool hospitals. From there I progressed into private practice where I gained in depth experience and knowledge of working with tennis, rugby, football and swimming teams. In 2011 I set up my own Physiotherapy practice, Haughton Physiotherapy, based in Haughton, Tarporley. In 2020, I relocated and moved my renamed practice, Stoney Stretton Physiotherapy, with me to Stoney Stretton, Shropshire. Covering all aspects of physiotherapy, I specialise in Pilates and sporting injuries along with seeing a huge variety of musculoskeletal disorders. In my own time I am a keen horse rider, hoping to compete each summer in a bit of British eventing and dressage.

Do not worry about this, it’s so common! The most likely cause is the formation and collapse of tiny nitrogen gas bubbles within the synovial fluid (lubricating fluid) of the joint, a process known as cavitation.

Or …

Natural Changes: As we age, cartilage surfaces can become slightly uneven. This “roughness” may cause a grinding or “crunchy” sensation when bones glide past each other.

SEEK HELP when the noise is accompanied by pain, swelling or weakness/ laxity of the joint.

Keep strengthening !!

Sciatica or peripheral artery disease (PAD)
Sounds scary but listen to the signs ..

Because both conditions cause leg pain, it is important to note the differences in their presentation. A vascular specialist can provide a definitive diagnosis, but here are some key clues to help PAD pain is reliably brought on by physical activity and relieved by rest. Sciatica pain can be constant or intermittent, often worsening with specific movements like bending, twisting, or even sitting, and may not be relieved by simply stopping walking.

We as physios can assess and diagnose this to a point but a referral on to a specialist would be our first call.

it’s the cross country season! Kids get stiff as we all do, they hold themselves when running and do suffer with aches and pains! This is one example of what can happen if the neck is a little stiff, shoulder a little tight and then so their run at school when not done it for a bit!! All very treatable!!!! 🏃‍♀️

This year I have seen many traumatic injuries and Nutrition is an important part of recovery especially in the healing of wounds , muscle repair or after surgery. Your body needs extra protein, zinc, and vitamins (especially vitamins C and D) to help heal bones and skin. Taking enough protein can also help your muscles get stronger for physiotherapy.

I am not a nutritionist but the body does need fuel to heal - just because your not training does not mean to stop eating but the opposite . Keep up with the carbs!!!!

After ACL surgery the hamstrings need some serious work - in fact after any knee surgery they need help! Try these - progressive work with the band in standing to the harder options of a bridge with raised feet. Always do reps of between 8-12 x3 times - to get the true benefit 🙏

A bit of an upper back self - release along with getting those abs switched on.. think one of my personal faves - ( but I have many 😜)

Get those scapular muscles switched on. Promise you this is a must. Simple , subtle but works a treat to switch on those muscles that support the shoulder

Inner thigh work out and side plank- 2 of my absolute faves for anyone with inner thigh tightness/ strength

We sometimes put so much focus on working our glutes and outer hips that we forget about the inner thighs. “It’s easy for the adductors to get missed !!
This mistake can exacerbate imbalances that leave the adductor muscles tight.

Plantar fasciitis… what a nightmare . So painful. But follow these steps and you should be able to self manage ….
It’s not al about giving the foot a rub! #

3 steps to help the plantar fascia- 1) self massage , 2) start to strengthen , 3 challenge the calf even more . It’s not just about a massage of the foot! Strength work is so important 💪💪💪 👣

Anyone suffering with An ACL rehab program? Please don’t suffer in silence . After this week of a few rehab patients just wanted to say ask for help!

1) don’t listen to another person who has had the surgery and compare - they are all different 2) Don’t google it
3) You can have ups and downs
4) rehab is the key - the right rehab and you can’t rush it- when someone works hard at the rehab it pays off. It’s not easy!
5) understand your surgery- what’s happened and why, the surgeon has done their bit , now it’s up to you! (And us physios !)
