Hi, I am Elisabeth Anne Roberts, I am Mum to 17yr old g/b twins, ds with autism, adhd & pda & dd with autism, selective mutism & anxiety (they are happy with me sharing this) & a 6yr old lg, who is our little pocket rocket π
My experience supporting my children π has enriched my life, they are absolute Superstars! Especially with what they have had to cope with as they grow..... limited resources, very little understanding, judgement & isolation. (this was a huge wake up call, I thought all children were treated equally)
I have fought to get them the individualised support in education, which has been an uphill struggle. This wasn't available for my son in Shropshire, so I had to find an education provision that would provide a bespoke curriculum & support & fight to ensure he wasn't forced in to social services care, just to access it, my parenting wasn't the issue, he has a number of developmental, neurological conditions, that cause a barrier to learning.
I won a landmark case, by getting him into a school & not go into care, he was funded purely by the education authority & he has progressed much further with the right support.
Since then, I have supported hundreds of families across the West Midlands, in education, gain access to Camhs/BeeU & provide individualised support.
I have also provided talks to school staff, West Midlands Police service, Telford & Wrekin social services & foster carers, given a presentation at Autism West Midlands' last annual conference in Birmingham & provided the in-house Autism, adhd & pda training at Overton School, where I was the Autism Strategic Lead.
I have a BSc Hons Degree in Diagnostic Radiography & have since used this degree, to create a technical file to legally make weighted therapy equipment for children & adults around the UK & Ireland.
I am the SEN Governor for Shropshire's TMBSS service, which provides me with fantastic experience & regular training in education & I along with 2 other governors, have recently employed the permanent Head of Service.
From September 2018 to April 2019, I set up a special school as Autism Strategic Lead, in the county, with 7 teaching professionals, which was to develop the whole school from scratch: policies, curriculum, the physical building, obtaining the Ofsted certificate & getting first pupils in.
I am due to start a part-time Masters in Autism, this September, with the University of Kent, which with the Tisdale Centre, is at the centre of research in autism in the UK.
With my experience & knowledge, I am widening my business from making medical devices, to assist families in getting the right support for their children/young adults. Providing SEND education for businesses & services, which staff can register as their CPD, whilst spreading more awareness & aiming for better understanding & inclusion.
I am passionate that our children get early intervention, that their strengths are developed, their individuality is celebrated & supported. That they get an education that suits their specific needs, that they have access to Camhs/BeeU service in a timely manner & that our children can develop into proactive members of society, this CAN be achieved!
I produce & provide affordable, bespoke, weighted therapy blankets & vests, that are fully machine washable & interest specific.
I provide educational talks to businesses & services, from a variety of perspectives, to enable them to provide a better service, which provides a more inclusive society. Thank you for reading πxx
