A little snapshot of what the team have been up to this week…

Therapist Katie worked with a brilliant young man who took on the role of communication detective - searching for clues in body language and facial expressions. Top work, detective! 🕵️‍♂️👏

Therapist Laura spent time with a super communicator using AAC (including Proloquo2Go), alongside drawing, acting and speaking to practise words she wants to use more consistently… with “Creme Egg” firmly at the top of the list! 🍫✨ (With a little help from Owakcx too!)

From detective work to creative communication - another lovely week supporting skills in ways that work best for each individual. 💚

The power of incremental progress.

In our work, we’re always reminded that progress doesn’t happen overnight. No it’s built through steady, meaningful moments over time.

We were so pleased to hear from a parent this week about a young person with Selective Mutism, Autism and Demand Avoidance who went to the cinema with a friend and independently bought their own popcorn. 🍿

What might seem like a small moment is actually a huge step! It involved them navigating a busy environment, communicating in a real-life situation, and managing all the sensory and social demands that come with it.

These are the moments that really matter. Every step builds towards greater confidence and a more independent future. The Amica SL&CC Team couldn't be prouder! 💚

A great Friday for Therapist Ami!

Last week, Ami spent the day at the conference - full of energy, ideas and inspiration.

From motivational (and very funny!) sessions with Sarah Stones, to exploring student placements in independent practice with Jan Baerselman, and hearing the latest EBP updates from Amit Kulkarni via RCSLT.

The panel discussions were a real highlight too! So many thoughtful and insightful conversations.

A brilliant day of learning and feeling inspired! ✨💚🙌

Swallowing Awareness Day 2026

Today is all about raising awareness of how Speech and Language Therapists (SaLTs) support people with eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties (also known as Dysphagia).

A big thank you to the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists for creating these informative graphics for us to share.

Here at Amica SL&CC, our therapist Katie is trained in the assessment and management of Dysphagia, and also delivers training to staff teams.

Therapist Laura started the day off right at Keystone.

Following up on strategies a student had shared to help him feel calm and ready to engage in lessons, the session included movement while connecting and chatting, as well as modelling Blank’s Level 4 in real-life situations.

Both headed off to start the day feeling calm, positive and ready to work💬✨
