We are delighted to announce that the new Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Bernie Bentick, has chosen Shropshire Mental Health Support as one of his chosen charities for the duration of his tenure. This news is particularly poignant as it has been announced during Mental Health Awareness Week.

In his first address as Mayor, Councillor Bentick said:
“It is a tremendous honour to serve as Mayor of Shrewsbury. During my mayoral year, I want to celebrate the beauty, vitality, culture and economy of our wonderful town while helping to build partnerships that benefit all sections of our community.

“I am particularly passionate about supporting health, wellbeing and opportunities — especially for young people, vulnerable families and those facing mental or physical health challenges.”

The Mayor has selected four charities to support during his year in office: Shropshire Mental Health Support, Shrewsbury Town FC Foundation, Lingen Davies Cancer Support and Little Stars.

Councillor Bentick said his charity choices reflect both his professional background in healthcare and his personal experiences supporting family members affected by mental illness and cancer.

“Charities play an essential role in filling gaps, supporting families and improving lives across Shropshire. I want to help raise both awareness and funding for organisations making a genuine difference in our communities,” he said.

We are excited to work with the new Mayor over this next year and hope to see him at our events.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, and we wanted to share some stats on mental health, some feedback from our visitors and how you can get support if you live in Shropshire.

This year’s theme is taking action, and we encourage you to take one small action this week, like checking in with a friend, researching volunteering opportunities, attending a group, or checking out the services we provide (link in bio). We all know it’s important to care for our physical health; our mental health should be just as important. What one action could you take regularly to help improve your mental health? One small action over time could make a huge difference.

If you or someone you know is struggling with their mental health and would like a friendly chat, please call 01743 368 647.

Hi everyone,

We will be outside The Guildhall in Frankwell with our Wellbeing Vehicle this Friday, the 15th of May, 9am -1pm. Celebrating Mental Health Awareness Week.

Our staff will be on hand to offer free mental health support, information and a listening ear.

This will be a drop-in service, so no appointment is needed.

We look forward to seeing some of you!

As part of Mental Health Awareness Week (May 11- 17), the Shropshire Mental Health Support (MHS) Wellbeing Bus will be at Frankwell Car Park, outside the Guildhall Reception, in Shrewsbury, on Friday 15 May 2026.

The Wellbeing Bus provides a welcoming and confidential space where people can drop in for free emotional wellbeing support and advice, whether they are concerned about their own mental health or are supporting someone else. The service offers a safe, non‑judgemental environment to talk openly about emotional wellbeing.

On the day, staff and volunteers from Shropshire Mental Health Support and Samaritans will be present to offer listening support, practical guidance and signposting to local and national services. The drop‑in is open to anyone, and no appointment or referral is required. Find out more here: https://orlo.uk/FGprX
