The power of now
March 6, 2018

It is NOW and that is all we have, so why not stop! Stop and think enough is enough, I need to help myself let go of the past. The body has memory and sometimes it is not enough to just think a change into action. Unfortunately trauma memory doesn't work like that.

There is an innate adaptive information process in all of us that works brilliantly most of the time. But it can get stuck and past traumas can keep on looping and generalizing out into your life.

One can then develop strategic coping mechanisms in an attempt to move past the unpleasant feelings from past events that you are still living with in the present. Some strategies to avoid these feelings can be unhelpful to you in the long term, e.g. eating disorders, alcoholism and other addictive behaviours, inappropriate anger and guilt often leading to depression, anxiety, social avoidance and many more.

EMDR can unblock the emotional pain by speeding up the natural adaptive information processing system that has just become stuck.
