🩺 Meningitis B Update.

You may have seen news about the recent Meningitis B outbreak in Kent. We understand how worrying this may be.

Health officials have confirmed that this outbreak is localised to the Kent area, and there is no increased risk to people outside Kent, including here in Leicestershire.

The UK Health Security Agency is managing the situation with targeted antibiotics and vaccination for affected students in Canterbury.

👉 Important to know:
The MenB vaccine is part of the routine NHS infant immunisation programme only. Older children, teens, and adults are not routinely offered MenB on the NHS unless advised during a specific outbreak response. We will keep you updated of any local developments on this.

🔒 If you would like the MenB vaccine privately, it is available through some pharmacies and private clinics.

Did you know that you can receive notifications and also cancel your appointments using the NHS App? The NHS campaign called “Tap the App” urges people to turn on “push alerts” from the NHS app, so that they get reminders about their appointments and can rearrange any that they cannot make.

Vaccination is the best way to reduce the risk of serious illness and protect children as they grow.
