RSV vaccine for pregnant women from 28 weeks: the practice is offering the vaccine too so please call and book in.

New data shows the RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) maternal vaccine hugely reduces baby hospital admissions.

A major UK study has found that when pregnant women get the RSV vaccine from 28 weeks of pregnancy, the risk of their baby being hospitalised with RSV chest infections drops by over 80% — and nearly 85 % when given 4+ weeks before birth.

This protection also applies to babies born prematurely, who are especially vulnerable.

RSV is a common cause of severe breathing infections in newborns. The vaccine boosts your immunity so protective antibodies pass to your baby before birth.

If you’re pregnant and eligible (from 28 weeks), ask your midwife about the RSV vaccine — it could make all the difference to your newborn.

We are currently experiencing difficulties with phone calls into our hospitals, following similar issues yesterday. If you are trying to call us, you may be unable to connect.

If you are less than 32 weeks pregnant and need to speak to a midwife, please go to the Leicester Royal Infirmary. For patients who are more than 32 weeks pregnant and who need to speak to midwife, they should go to the hospital where they were booked.

NHS bowel cancer screening kits are offered to everyone aged between 50 and 74.

They can help find cancer early, before you even have any symptoms. And the earlier cancer is found, the easier it can be to treat.

When your kit arrives, put it by the loo. Don’t put it off.

Let someone else know they should send their kit back – especially as April is Bowel Cancer Awareness month.
