π The International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM) is the only Association solely dedicated to Baby Massage in the world. IAIM instructors are trained with the most comprehensive courses available in the UK today. The IAIM was founded in the 1970βs by Vimala McClure, based on ancient traditions and supported by modern scientific research.
π I first trained as a Massage Therapist and then qualified as a Certified Infant Massage Instructor in 2008 after extensive face to face training. I have since become an Ambassador for the IAIM after winning the Spirit of Community Award in 2020. The IAIM training course is accredited by the Royal College of Midwives, Embody and CTHA and has endorsements by world leading attachment experts.
π IAIM courses are at least 5 weeks long, my sessions are for 90 minutes because to be honest, the programme is so comprehensive, I would struggle to affectively share it all in less time. You cannot learn the ethos of Baby Massage in an hourβs session!
π We do not spend the entire time massaging; you are given time to relax in an unrushed environment to bond with your baby. Led by your baby, we take time each week to learn massage strokes for each area of the body to build up to a full body routine. Tending to your babyβs needs is welcomed during the sessions, crying, feeding and settling your baby is in no way a disruption.
π As well as the practical skills, parents attending an IAIM course will learn supporting theory such as the benefits of massage, identifying and reading cues, adaptations for older children, suitable timing for babyβs needs, as well as having time for discussions, which is an important part of the course.
π The IAIM offer an amazing support network to all instructors across the world so that we feel confident and up to date with the latest stroke reviews, training practices, professional learning and research.
π IAIM Instructors are dedicated to Baby Massage and that is what we focus on, we do not believe it is beneficial to over stimulate babies by adding more, we donβt need all the bells and whistles.
