As you all know, I was involved in an accident a couple of years ago that saw me having to take a huge amount of time off due to damaging my knees.

Fast forward, whilst things have marginally improved, my knees will give way sporadically, as well as lock at random times of the day.

This isn’t ideal when bending down to stretch out a 700kg horse, or is it ideal trying to drive to clients when it happens.

Not only is this very painful, but I also don’t want the additional worry & pressure of having to cancel last minute. My mental health has taken an absolute battering in the process by readjusting to this new pace of life, especially with my horses and riding.

In addition to this, I find that the industry expectation is really lacking due to the substandard training and qualification of cheap practitioners. I scaled my business on knowledge, continuous professional development and constantly evolving but to see others doing a day course just frustrates the hell out of me.

I have been very fortunate to have had such an amazing time with SM Sports Therapy, building up an absolute incredible business but it’s very much my time to slow down on the physical aspect.

I will still be available for training and to help people with their horses from the ground.

However it breaks my heart to say I will for the time being, be ceasing all practitioner duties.

Thank you all for your support over the last 15 years, I’ve made some incredible friends, both human & horses.

But for those that know me well will know, I also own a very different type of business.

Always listen to your horse.

Bree had been telling me the last 2 rides she wasn’t comfortable - being shown by throwing those quarters out on the left rein and fixing through her left shoulder.

Safe to say having a mummy that does what she does is very useful in her life 🥱

Tension creeping up on that right hand shoulder.

There was a lot of working knots out of this one, concentrating on the trapezius & deltoid in particular.

Erythema is a redness of the skin caused by increased blood flow. This assists the massage and recovery process as it assists with removing waste products whilst relaxing the muscles. You can see this on the right shoulder, (poor photography skills as well as it being the end!)

Absolutely 🧡 my new oil too. It’s so nourishing & glides like a dream!

Starting the year with a pony that most certainly was saying ouch! When I got to starting the back (particularly LD and SD muscle), he said no thank you 😱

His person then told me she had been trouble getting on him, and he’s been difficult to bend to the left.

This coincides with the irritability you can see along his back, which in turn, affects both the head, neck and rib cage.

Tailoring the treatment meant he was able to tolerate the lighter touch therapy, rather than the manual sports therapy.

And that’s what’s magical: working how the horse wants to work ✨

Back to work today! Looking forward to start fixing ponies, horses & their people for 2025! Been a bit radio silent due to having moved the horses… but I think Bree is happy!

Happy New Year to all my followers 💚

2024 was a tricky one… having really injured my knees and having to knock 90% of work on the head, as well as being unable to ride for pretty much the whole year!

If there’s one thing to take from it this year, is I’m not setting myself any horse person resolutions.

But, realising that having my horses is much cheaper alternative to therapy.

Setting milestones it’s important in anyone’s journey, but this year I’m just going to enjoy my horsey life, whatever is thrown my way.

Even if that means just mooching down the lane with one muddy ear in my eyesight 🥰

Having a horse with colitis is hard work! Between the “oh she looks dirty” behind the scenes is the:

🧼 Constant washing
🐷 Bottles of pig oil to stop things sticking
☔️ Weather checking to see the water in the grass
🍲 Going through expensive supplements
😴 Her acute lethargy and fatigue
💪 Dropping of weight and muscle
💊 Keeping her belly and hindgut comfortable

It’s no easy task, and in the next few weeks we are making some huge changes (even yards!) to implement a new structure to minimise the chronic issues she faces on a day to day basis!
