Say Hello…

With the start of a new term, we are welcoming lots of new babies to our Baby Sensory® classes all over the UK.

Every Baby Sensory® session is delivered by a trained Practitioner who understands the parenting journey and your baby’s needs; every session is baby-led so you can feel comfortable in attending to your baby’s needs at any time.

Classes start with our ‘Say Hello to the Sun’ song which reassures your baby that Baby Sensory® is a happy place to be, followed by 4 short activities (to avoid overstimulation). All activities are supported by learning and development information, a demonstration and time for you to interact purposefully with your baby.

Then, we have a rest-break so you can move about, nurse or change your baby, meet other parents, and share ideas and experiences. You will also discover our fabulous range of sensory play equipment to delight, entertain or calm your baby.

The final part of the session includes therapeutic activities and ends with our signature song, ‘Wave Goodbye’ to help your baby drift into peaceful sleep!

We’d love to see you in our local classes this term.

Is your baby on the move? Maybe not yet?

Crawling is a big milestone for babies, it can open up lots of fun and new experiences for them -- and will happen for your baby when they are ready. Our Baby Sensory® classes incorporate activities that encourage crawling and other sensory experiences to support this development.

Listen in on our "work in progress podcasts " with our programme Director Imogen and franchisee Michelle as they discuss CRAWLING.

Crawling is crucial for a baby's development, offering benefits beyond just mobility. It enhances sensory integration, spatial awareness, and cognitive development by stimulating neural connections and promoting bilateral coordination.

Milestones are broad so remember it can happen at different times for your own baby. If you have any concerns do check in with your healthcare provider.

Baby Massage - Did you know...

Physical contact positively influences the development of the brain and deepens the relationship between the parent and child. It also spells love, involvement, care, security, and protection.

Our latest blog The Power of Touch explores the benefits of massage for your baby.

Baby Sensory® is aimed at babies from 0-13 months but it is our best practice to offer split sessions in two age groups: birth to 6 months and 7 to 13 months...

Why?
This approach is based on extensive research, experience and testing. We work hard to meet the needs of all babies -- but younger babies' need are very different to those of older babies.

We take a look at the differences in these classes and what you can expect from both.

We also offer mixed ages sessions (0-13 months or 3-13 months); these are popular with parents who are friends with babies of different ages but all activities will be explained clearly and different ages and stages within each class taken in to account.

Remember, it's the age of baby at the start of term to help you decide which class to choose but if you need any advice or help with your booking just drop us a message.

Sun, sand and sea! ☀️🏖️🌊

Have you been to the sea side this summer?

There are many benefits to baby signing, parents who observe their baby’s hand signals and interact with reciprocal signing, develop a mutual bond of understanding. This reduces stress and frustration and makes for a happier, calmer baby.

HAPPY NATIONAL PLAY DAY
What are you getting up to to celebrate?

Why not try some of the ideas from our PLAY DAY BINGO 2025?

"Play is fundamental to healthy brain and physical development. It provides an emotional outlet for tension and frustration, and it is crucial to the socialisation process. Play allows babies to interact in the world around them, to make sense of it and to learn about their own culture.
Play also lays the foundation for reading, writing, mathematical reasoning, critical thinking, language, and scientific discovery. In fact, play is so important that it has been globally recognised to be a fundamental human right." from Baby Play by Dr. Lin Day

The benefits of play:
Play has so many benefits that it is impossible to fully list them all. However, the following may serve as a starting point. Play enables babies to:

⭐ Explore their bodies

⭐ Gain muscle strength

⭐ Control and coordinate movements

⭐ Develop fine motor skills

⭐ Refine hand-eye coordination

⭐ Experiment and make discoveries

⭐ Make choices

⭐ Make decisions

⭐ Solve problems

⭐ Improve memory and concentration

⭐ Expand intelligence

⭐ Develop language

⭐ Stimulate imagination

⭐ Develop confidence and self-esteem

⭐ Learn important new skills

⭐ Build relationships with other people

⭐ Develop the senses

Babies learn best when they can experience things that they can see, hear, feel, touch, smell, and taste. It is how they gain knowledge of themselves and learn about the world.

CHOOSING A GOOD NURSERY - TOP TIPS

When the time comes to choose a nursery for your little one and you are visiting for the first time, you need to feel completely happy with the environment and the quality of care before accepting a place for your baby.

To help with making the right choice, we have some suggested questions to ask.

Remember, if the nursery does not have a friendly feel, or the quality of care and learning are not there, then look elsewhere.

"Say Hello to my friends, playing games with me. I love my friends because my friends love me..."

Today is International Day of Friendship and we acknowledge the power and importance of friendship in parenting and the effects of social isolation in our latest blog. We see so many parents meet and make life-long friends in our class setting... If you made friends in our classes give us a tag or like in comments/piccies.

"Never underestimate how powerful a small gesture can be. A kind message, a phone call or even a funny meme can remind a new parent that they are not alone. And if you are a parent going through a hard time, do not wait until you feel better to reach out. Making a connection is often the first step towards feeling better."

THAT SONG!

Did you know Dr Lin Day originally composed the Baby Sensory® Say Hello to the Sun song for the children at Woodford Nursery School to introduce them to the sun, moon, stars and the natural world around them?

Over the years, Say Hello to the Sun (sung by Lin’s daughter Katie, pictured above as a child), has had a powerful impact on thousands of parents and babies with numerous stories of how the familiarity of the soothing melody can make the world of difference from birth. In 2019, the song reached number 1 in the children’s UK singles charts.

Our Story

Baby Sensory classes provide hundreds of sensory development activities that are great fun for parents and babies to share in the vital first year. Baby Sensory is the only Baby Development programme with classes specifically designed for babies from birth.

Baby Sensory classes provide hundreds of simple activities that are fun for babies from birth to 13 months. Our baby classes include baby activities ranging from signing to fibre optic light shows, amazing light balls, bubbles and bells; there is always something different. Many of these activities are set to our own Baby Sensory music which is available on CD. What is really exciting about Baby Sensory is that it is an parent and baby group where many of the sensory materials and baby activities are unique to the programme.

Each class includes seven different activities each week and a discovery play time, during which baby can enjoy our sensory play area whilst parents have the opportunity to meet.
