One year ago we began Lads Chat!
We can’t believe we’ve been doing this for 12 months. In that time we’ve had 24 meetings across 3 locations and met 20 different lads in person while being an online and physical presence for anyone who has wanted our assistance and support with whatever they are going through.
During that time we have also each taken our own respective steps to support our communities. Martin has become a councillor for Morton and Sandbeds on Keighley Town Council and has recently been instrumental and successful in saving the Keighley Tip! I went in a different and less dangerous direction by becoming a Fire Fighter.
The transition we have both been through personally during this time has made our ability to meet going forward much harder as alongside our community based roles we also have our other jobs/projects and our family lives to balance.
With this in mind we are going to move our support to online.
This has not been an easy decision and we have tried our utmost to not only continue but to also take steps for a more recognised organisation to come to Skipton. Unfortunately the hoops they require us to jump through just aren’t possible for either of us - which disappoints us both especially as we have managed to do Lads Chat ourselves on a couple of quid a week and this ‘charitable organisation’ has had literally £1000s raised for it by residents of Skipton and won’t meet us halfway on a single one of their “necessary requirements” 😔 😡
Please lads continue to message us, ladies please continue to point the lads of your life towards our messaging service and we will be here to discuss issues, share our experiences and signpost to further situation specific support where it’s potentially beneficial.
Much love x
