JOB VACANCY: Optical Assistant

We are looking for an Optical Assistant to join our fantastic team at Skipton's multi-award-winning independent private opticians.

You'll be bright & cheery and have good organisational skills. You'll need to have good people skills too, as you will be dealing with our patients in person and on the phone. Most importantly, you'll be able to work well as part of a great team in a fast-paced environment.

This exciting role involves supporting our professional team and some reception responsibilities too. You'll be carrying out scans on patients as they arrive using the latest high-tech optical equipment, ahead of their appointment with their optician You will be looking after the vast designer frame ranges in our private dispensing rooms and spending time manning our busy reception desk.

The position is 3 days per week - Monday, Thursday and Friday, plus some holiday cover as necessary.

Dark Chocolate Easter Eggs are good for your eyesight!

A small amount of dark chocolate is good for your eyesight, providing it is dark containing at least 50% Cacao, that's according to Harvard Medical School. The experts say in moderation, high Cacao chocolate is good for the heart and good for your eyesight.

The polyphenols found in cocoa are called flavanols. These have an especially positive effect on our blood vessels, by healing damage to the lining, relaxing the muscle, and improving blood flow. Studies have shown that cocoa flavanols also improve blood sugar metabolism and reduce the risk of developing diabetes, as well as reduce risk for heart and vascular disease in patients who have diabetes.

The authors of the visual study hypothesize that cocoa flavanols enhance availability of oxygen and nutrients to the blood vessels of the eye and brain. The retina in particular, they point out, is very highly vascularized and may be the area of interest in these study findings.

They conclude, the best and most consistent results are from dark chocolate, which can contain between 50% and 90% cocoa flavanols. Milk chocolate can contain as little as 10% up to maybe 50%, and tends to be made with more fat.
