We often get asked if we do reformer classes.
Yes we have two reformers, but no we don’t run reformer classes exclusively.
As a Comprehensive Pilates Instructor, I teach the entire Pilates system - not just reformer classes - because Joseph Pilates designed his method as an interconnected, full-body approach using a variety of apparatus, each serving a unique purpose within the system.
The full Pilates system includes the Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector, Mat, and several smaller pieces of equipment. Each apparatus is designed to complement the others, helping the body find balance, strength, and control through a progressive and intelligently structured method. By working with the full range of equipment, I can tailor sessions precisely to each individual’s needs - whether that means supporting, challenging, or refining their movement in a way that a one-size-fits-all reformer class simply cannot.
While reformer classes can offer a great workout, they tend to be more generalised. Everyone in the room performs the same sequences, often at a similar pace, using the same springs and setup. The focus is typically on fitness rather than the therapeutic and corrective power of Pilates as a complete system.
In contrast, teaching the full system allows for a far more holistic and personalised experience. I can choose the right apparatus for each client’s body and goals on any given day - using the Cadillac to build stability, the Chair to develop power and balance, or the Barrels to restore alignment and flexibility. This way, the work meets the body where it is, rather than forcing the body to fit the work.
Ultimately, teaching the full Pilates system honours the original intention of Joseph Pilates - a complete method of movement that integrates mind, body, and spirit, and restores natural strength and vitality through precision and progression. It’s not just a class - it’s a whole-body education in movement.
