The NSA are hosting a webinar to explain the consultation on mandating the animal health and welfare review.

The consultation also includes cattle.

On Wednesday 25th March, NSA is holding a free webinar discussing the current Animal Health and Welfare consultation.

The consultation asks many questions including what this review visit should contain, and questions over data collection.

NSA is encouraging farmers to get their views heard in addition to the NSA responding in our own right.

🐛 creepy crawlies 🐛

▪️Here are some ectoparasites we have found on sheep recently
▪️Ectoparasites cause itching on sheep. This can be nibbling at fleeces, scratching on posts or even severe discomfort
▪️Lice (picture 1) can be chewing or biting. They can be an incidental finding in small numbers, but do causing irritation
▪️Scab mites (pictures 2 and 3) can take a few weeks from infection before signs of irritation occur. This can progress to severe irritation, large lesions and significant production losses
▪️Mites and lice require different treatment, knowing the cause of the itching is vital to treatment success
▪️We offer an ‘itchy sheep’ package. If you bring some affected sheep down there is a fixed cost to taking and looking at samples
▪️Ring the practice if you have any concerns or want to discuss itchy sheep
