This is so true. I know it’s not easy to say/think the right thing, but what we constantly say to ourselves, our subconscious believes. It’s one of the reasons that I get the people that I help to write down 3 good things per day to notice the positives in their life and to use daily affirmations about the person they want to be but stated in the present as if it’s already who they are.

Tip number 5 to make sure that you succeed in your New Year's Resolutions. You're 5 days in, keep going! 💪

Our top tips for 2025 New Year's Resolutions continue;

5. Find an alternative

If you are giving something up, what is your positive alternative? What would be nice to eat or drink instead of junk food or alcohol? If it is smoking, what will you do with the extra time and money that you gain that would be pleasurable for you? By coming up with an alternative in advance, you are not leaving it to the cravings part of your brain to swap one vice for another.

Tip number 3 for sticking to your New Years Resolutions.

Tip number 3 for sticking to your New Years Resolutions.

Our top tips for 2025 New Year's Resolutions continue;

3. Make it important
Let us imagine that your goal is to quit smoking. Why is that important to you? Is it the money that you will save that motivates you, is it not having to go outside in all weathers, or perhaps it is the health benefits and being around for your children or grandchildren that really motivates you? Write down why your goal is something that you have decided is something that you absolutely must achieve, rather than something that you feel would just make you feel a little better.

Here’s the second of my tips to success at your new year goals that I wrote for the AfSFH.

Here’s the second of my tips to success at your new year goals that I wrote for the AfSFH.

It's the start of a new year, and with that comes the opportunity to reevaluate your goals, but let’s face it, New Year’s resolutions aren't exactly known for being something stuck to past mid-January! So, we have put together 10 top tips to help you have the best chance of succeeding this time around.

2. Make it achievable/track your progress
It is natural to shoot for the stars when you are setting yourself a goal, but remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Whilst it is obviously important to know what the end goal is, it is the smaller steps that move you towards it, that help us stay on track. Try setting yourself weekly, fortnightly, or monthly smaller goals that you can achieve. When you hit a target, it will release a reward and motivation chemical called Dopamine, which will, in turn, motivate you to continue towards what you are ultimately aiming for.

If you are looking to make positive changes in 2025, over the next 10 days I’ll be sharing my top tips to succeed in your New Year’s resolutions (I wrote these in my CEO capacity for the AfSFH).

It's the start of a new year, and with that comes the opportunity to reevaluate your goals, but let’s face it, New Year’s resolutions aren't exactly known for being something stuck to past mid-January! So, we have put together our 10 top tips to help you have the best chance of succeeding this time around.

Tip 1. Make it positive
You can’t not think of something, so when you tell yourself that your goal is to stop eating chocolate, your mind must first think about chocolate to process what you do not want to do … and we all know how that’s going to end. It is a bit of a cliché, but if we told you that you categorically, under no circumstances, that you must not think of a bright yellow sunflower, our bet is that one would pop into your head, even if just for a moment. By making your goal positive, you can focus on just what you want. For example, only eating healthy snacks between meals.

Rectangular breathing is something that I teach all of the people that I help in my practice. It’s not a cure for anxiety in the long term, but it’s really powerful to help you get control over your anxiety in the moment.

I hope you find this helpful 🙏🏻

I’m very proud of the next generation of hypnotherapists that I had the privilege to train and graduate last weekend.

Fancy becoming a hypnotherapist yourself? My next course starts in London in March.

🚨Trigger warning 🚨

I’ve always been ok with spiders (my sister got that phobia instead of me), but snakes 🐍, they made my skin crawl!!

So when I got the opportunity to practice what I preach 12 years ago (it just came up on my Facebook memories from when I used to work at Heart Radio), I did some self hypnosis and I have to say, I actually enjoyed holding the spider and snake.

Now I never make my clients do anything like this, they don’t need to as they know when thier phobia is gone, but even phobias that you have had for years and years can be resolved.

Let me know if you would like me to help you with yours.
