🎃 Intergenerational Fun! 👧🧓

What a wonderful week we’ve had! Our residents were treated to visits from the children of Millwood House Day Nursery Ltd and Farnham Common Junior School. 💛

The Millwood children sang, danced, and played games — we got the parachute, silk scarves, and even the bubble machine out! Everyone had such a lovely time, and the children enjoyed a well-deserved biscuit and drink afterwards. 🍪✨

Our friends from Farnham Common Junior School came as part of their Junior Challenge Gold Award, inspired by the Duke of Edinburgh Award. The children took part in activities including reading with residents, pumpkin-themed collages, and Halloween paper chains. 🎃📚🧡

It was such a joy having both groups visit — our residents absolutely loved spending time with the children, and we can’t wait to welcome them all back again soon! 💕

👩‍🦯 Today is White Cane Safety Day — a day to raise awareness about the importance of the white cane in supporting independence and mobility for people who are blind or visually impaired.

At Signature at Farnham Common we have several residents who live with limited or no sight, and we’re proud to make small, meaningful changes to help them live as independently — and joyfully — as possible.

Here are just a few things our amazing team does every day:

✨ Discreet wall beading to guide movement in bedroom
🎵 Housekeepers whistling softly so residents know where they are when servicing their rooms
🎨 Describing artwork, colours & textures of the home allowing residents to visualise their surroundings
🍽 Layout of a meal visualised using a clock face, to help locate each food type easily on the plate
☕ Always placing teacups in the same spot, with the handle facing the same way
🌿 Care teams escorting residents to our fully accessible gardens, so they can enjoy the outdoors safely and confidently

We all value our independence — today, we celebrate inclusion, accessibility, and the steps we can all take to make a difference to those living with sight loss.

World Heart Day ❤️

To mark World Heart Day, our residents enjoyed a sunny walk around our grounds. Gentle exercise like walking supports overall wellbeing and heart health.

Tuesdee and Emma, our British Heart Foundation Ambassadors, provided relatives and staff with guidance on the RevivR online CPR training. Which teaches you CPR within 15 minutes. You can access the course directly via the link below.

We are also proud to share that we raised £156 for the British Heart Foundation, supporting this vital charity.

Celebrating Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur – the Jewish New Year

Today we welcomed Galit, who spoke to us about the significance of Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur, the two major High Holidays that mark the Jewish New Year.

Rosh HaShanah, the Jewish New Year, marks the beginning of the Hebrew calendar and commemorates the creation of the world, which this year is celebrated as 5,785 years ago. It is observed on the first and second days of the month of Tishrei (usually September) and is a time of reflection, repentance, and renewal. Some of its traditions include the symbolic act of Tashlich (‘casting away’), where the act of casting bread into flowing water symbolises the removal of sins from the previous year. Families and friends also gather for festive meals featuring symbolic foods such as apples dipped in honey (for a sweet year), pomegranates (for good deeds, as many as their 613 seeds), and fish (to be leaders rather than followers). The sounding of the shofar (made from a ram’s horn) is also central, blown 100 times throughout the High Holidays to announce the New Year and call for prayer and self-examination.

Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, takes place ten days after Rosh HaShanah and is regarded as the holiest day of the Jewish year. It is a solemn occasion dedicated to fasting, prayer, self-reflection, and seeking forgiveness. It provides an opportunity to reconcile with God and with others, emphasising repentance and the commitment to personal growth and improvement.

Together, the High Holiday, Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur, encourage introspection, renewal, and the pursuit of a more meaningful and compassionate life.
A truly fascinating talk from Galit. Thank You

🌟 Professional Care Workers’ Week – 22nd - 25th September 🌟

Please join us in celebrating the individual professional care workers who make such a difference every single day. Their hard work, compassion, and dedication are vital in supporting some of the most vulnerable people in our society – and we are so grateful for everything they do. 💜

At Signature at Farnham Common, we take pride in recognising and celebrating the achievements of our amazing team whenever we can.

In addition, we hold our Purple Heart Awards Scheme every month, where team members, families, and residents are invited to vote for a colleague who truly embodies our values – and together, we celebrate their commitment, kindness, and success.

👏 A huge thank you to all care workers – this week, and every week!

A truly unforgettable day with our feathered friends! 🌟

We were delighted to welcome back to Signature at Farnham Common, Owl Adventures for another wonderful visit with our residents. Ryan, their highly skilled bird handler, introduced us to three magnificent species of owls – including the elegant Barn Owl and the impressive Eagle Owl – as well as a striking hawk.
Our residents were given the unique opportunity to hold each bird safely on their hand, allowing them to truly appreciate their beauty and presence up close. Throughout the session, Ryan shared a wealth of fascinating information about the birds, their habitats, and their behaviours, while also answering questions from our residents with great enthusiasm and knowledge.
Experiences like these bring so much joy and enrichment to our community, and we are very grateful to Owl Adventures for providing such a memorable and engaging visit. We look forward to welcoming them back again in the near future. 🦉🦅
