How to stay young for longer.
Why training with weights is important for a youthful look.
Did you know resistance/ weight training fires up the metabolism and fat burning for longer. You could still be burning fat and your whole metabolism fired up for up to 48 hrs post workout.!
Its commonly heard that once we are over 45, or the pre.menopause age, that our bodies begin to change & age quicker. Skin changes, crepes and sags. tiredness or weakness increases, slower cognitive abilities to name but a few.
True.!
But it REALLY doesn’t have to be this way.
Prevention is certainly better than cure, so the earlier we start resistance training, the slower we will age.
But
It must be performed at a level of intensity which, keeps our hormones balanced
AND
Benefits our nervous system.
Too much
Intense exercise
Or prolonged cardio
Can very easily promote fat storage.
Muscle wasting.
Disrupted sleep
And
QUICKER ageing .!
We only need as little as 15 mins resistance 3 x week . To start achieving these benefits.
Why does weight / resistance training slow down the ageing process ?
Firstly posture..
keeping a strong, straight and aligned posture immediately makes us look and feel and move in a youthful way.
It keeps our joints strong and mobile, whilst maintaining or increasing our bone density.
so we have greater protection agains injury, falling, broken or fractured bones.
Developing our muscles, by growing their mass and density, we actually increase the number of mitochondria per muscle.!
Mitochondria are the tiny little battery power packs responsible for actually producing our energy quota within the muscle.
So the bigger the muscle, the more energy it is capable of producing.
Working the core also helps us keep our organs in the right place. No prolapses.
Working out correctly also massages and increases blood flow to our vital organs. Helping flush toxins and or flood tissues with a healthy balance of oxygen & Carbon dioxide.
Most amazingly is the chemical boost it gives our endocrine system ( hormones)
This is where the magic starts to happen.
It boosts the hormones which would naturally decrease with age.
The youth giving hormones . Which maintain skin elasticity, integrity and Keep muscle mass in tact. It
can Help repair broken down tissue.
Increasing or maintaining muscle mass certainly helps reduce or keep the dreaded cellulite and saggy skin at bay.
Hormones such as our s*x hormones oestrogen progesterone and testosterone, ( present and required in both male and females) insulin and our ability to metabolise
glucose are balanced or increased.
This increase is naturally produced by our own body, so has no unwanted side effects, unlike some synthetic hormone replacements.
Burning off excess Glucose is vital for health and longevity.
Excess glucose or glucose spikes are extremely detrimental to our health and longevity.
Our biggest muscles such as glutes , quadriceps and back, can burn up excess glucose efficiently.
But
Even the often forgotten calf muscle ( Soleus)
Is actually very efficient at burning off excess glucose .
Positive empowerment. !
Research showed a significant increase in CONFIDENCE and feelings of being empowered with participants regularly undertaking weight training sessions.
The psychological , emotional wellbeing benefits of correct resistance training are quite simply phenomenal. !!
Once again
New healthy neural pathways can be created due to our brains AMAZING neuro plastic ability. Giving a healthy boost to essential neurotransmitters which also keep us young in mind and body, these are produced in a number of different ways. Including through a healthy gut, good exercise at the right intensity can certainly help increase gut health, and help decrease gut related issues.
WARNING ..!
Providing once again the exercise isn’t too intense for too long.
Otherwise
Stress hormones such as cortisol are triggered
Which in turn can disrupt digestion and a healthy gut balance quite quickly.
Either way
Whatever you choose to help you on your longevity and youthful journey…
the old saying indeed remains true…
“If you don’t use it
You lose it”
So if your interested in slowing down the ageing clock
There is no excuse good enough not to start
Just a little weight training into your days.
Increase gradually and keep the work out short but higher intensity.
