🌱 Our Gardening Club is Back! 🌱
Our gardening club is back by popular demand here at Blythe Rose Specialist Dementia Care, and this year it’s bigger and better than ever!
Although we are still experiencing a cold chill and a little rain, spring is definitely in the air. To make the most of the season, we have introduced a sensory element to our sessions so that no matter what the weather is like outside, our residents can still feel as though they are in the garden doing what they love most.
With the calming scent of lavender oils, the gentle sound of chirping birds, and the vibrant colours of spring plants, our residents enjoyed planting their first pots of the season.
For people living with dementia, awakening the senses through smell, sound, and sight can be incredibly powerful. Familiar scents like lavender can trigger memories and create a sense of calm, natural sounds such as birdsong can promote relaxation, and bright flowers and greenery provide visual stimulation that encourages engagement and joy. Sensory experiences like these can help improve mood, spark meaningful conversations, and reconnect individuals with treasured memories and activities.
We can’t wait to see our garden — and our gardening club — continue to grow this spring! 🌸🌿
