So whilst using the hob, the electrics inside my oven caught fire with smoke pouring out! A swift call to 999 and me and the boys had to evacuate and await the fire brigade.
For our own safety, they needed to remove the oven which is now sat in the garden under tarpaulin whilst we await a fire investigation and for .co.uk to get back to us regarding this faulty product.
As it’s under 6 months old, we are luckily protected by consumer law. And given that .co.uk also installed the oven and signed it off as safe, I would hope they are going to respond soon! The call to them on Wednesday though wasn’t promising… ‘Why are you calling us!’
I’m very grateful for the very swift response from the fire brigade and I’m just pleased I was closely watching otherwise things could have turned out very different. We now have no oven which is tricky, especially with neurodivergent picky eaters. Fingers crossed that we’re not left hanging too long.
Marks electrical have tried pushing us back to Belling who will send someone to try and repair it but we don’t want it back in the house! I’m sure this isn’t right anyway under law, as under 6 months old, the item is assumed to be faulty as point of purchase and clearly isn’t fit for purpose at best, and lethal at worst!
Any advice welcome!
