Staying healthy over Winter

As the shorter and colder days draw in it is important to stay healthy and boost your immune system over the winter.

Here are our top tips to keep the immune system functioning effectively.
- vitamin D supplement. The short dark days means we get less sunlight and therefore do not absorb as much vitamin D.

Meet our new massage therapist George!

George is a sports massage therapist who completed his level 3 qualification in 2019 and then went on to complete his level 4 in 2020. He specialises in cupping therapy and instrument assisted techniques as well as kinesiology taping. He is also a qualified personal trainer and is a sports and fitness fanatic. George is a huge football and boxing fan and is very passionate about his training. He has joined the Dorridge team to help our patients stay injury free, enhance their rehabilitation, recovery and general well-being.

Sleeping Position

Do you sleep on your back, front or side?

Did you know that sleeping on your front can put added pressure on your spine? Not only does front sleeping stress the muscles and joints but it can also have an adverse affect on the natural curve of the lumbar spine.

When you sleep on your front you have to rotate your head to be able to breathe throughout the night. This can also irritate your neck as it is an unnatural position to be in for a prolonged period of time.

We recommend sleeping on your back or side to help keep a neutral spinal position.

Ultrasound💫

The Chiropractic team recently visited Dr Denton to learn more about private general practice and ultrasound.

We discussed how musculoskeletal ultrasound can be used in a Chiropractic setting and how it might benefit us as part of our examination and diagnosis.

Musculoskeletal ultrasound is a specialised examination that uses high frequency sound waves to visualise your muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments.

It can diagnose a range of different injuries such as sprain/strains, bursitis, frozen shoulder etc. It provides an ‘in time’ image of the structure which can show how it is functioning in certain movements or positions.

The truth is no posture is perfect if you stay in that position for hours!

Your body will hold onto positions that you spend a lot of time in, which can lead to imbalance and dysfunction.

Dysfunction is often present long before any pain begins - so just because you don't have any pain it doesn't mean that there aren't any problems!

Many of us have been working from home over the past year and spending a lot of time sat down at our desk.
Here is a reminder of how we should be sitting at the desk to prevent aches and pains:
> Top of computer screen should be at eye level
> Elbows at 90 degrees and keyboard should be at the same height as elbows to avoid wrists being extended
> Sit back into chair and keep back and neck straight
> Lumbar support to support curve in lower back
> Feet flat on the floor - avoid crossing legs

> REMEMBER to have regular breaks from this seated position to stretch and go for a walk.
