As temperatures drop, the risk to older adults and vulnerable people increases. Cold weather can lead to illnesses such as hypothermia, chest infections and falls due to icy conditions. At Elite Assistance, we’re here to help keep everyone safe, warm, and well this winter.

Here are some simple tips to stay protected during the cold spell:

Keep warm indoors
• Heat the home to at least 18°C
• Wear layers of clothing to trap warmth
• Use blankets or hot water bottles safely

Eat well & stay hydrated
• Regular warm meals and drinks help maintain body temperature
• Check cupboards are stocked with essentials

Stay safe outdoors
• Avoid going out in icy conditions where possible
• Wear sturdy, non-slip footwear
• Use walking aids if needed

Look after your health
• Take prescribed medications on time
• Keep an eye on any new or worsening symptoms
• Ask for help if feeling unwell

Check in on loved ones & neighbours
A quick call or visit could make all the difference.

If you or someone you know needs extra support during the cold weather, our team is here for you.

Stay safe, stay warm and look after one another.

We had a fantastic time attending the annual Visit Knowle AGM last night! A huge thank you to the team for looking after us so well - it was great to meet and network with so many brilliant local businesses.

A particularly special moment was hearing some personal feedback from one of the attendees who shared their family’s positive experience of the care we provided. It was truly heartwarming and reminded us why we do what we do every day.

We thoroughly enjoyed our evening with Visit Knowle and are already looking forward to many more events and collaborations in the future!

We’re supporting Befriending Week, the campaign to raise awareness about befriending and highlight the power of social connection in reducing loneliness and social isolation.

It’s estimated that over 3,400 over 65s in Solihull are lonely, compared to 2,633 nationally.

Our befrienders are matched with an older Solihull resident based on shared interests and personalities, and they visit or phone them on a weekly basis for a chat. This can make a world of difference to older Solihull residents who live alone and have no other opportunities to socialise.

If you can spare an hour or two a week to visit a lonely older person in Solihull, click below to find out more:

🎆 Bonfire Night Reminder from Elite Assistance 🎆

As Bonfire Night lights up the skies, we’d like to remind everyone to stay safe and be considerate this evening.

Many of the people we support - along with older neighbours, pets, and those with health conditions - can find the loud bangs and flashes a little overwhelming.

If you’re celebrating tonight, please try to:

✨ Let neighbours know if you’re planning fireworks
✨ Keep displays to reasonable hours
✨ Consider quieter or low-noise fireworks

Let’s keep our community safe, calm, and cared for - so everyone can enjoy the evening in comfort. 💫

Stay warm and have a lovely Bonfire Night from all of us at Elite Assistance.

It’s always wonderful to receive cards of appreciation at the office, but when our service users take the time to make us a beautiful Halloween card, it means even more.

As we get ready for trick-or-treat fun, let’s take a moment to remind our little ghosts and goblins to be kind and considerate - especially towards our elderly neighbours

October is ADHD Awareness Month!

As a manager in a domiciliary care agency and as someone who lives with ADHD myself - this month is deeply personal.

ADHD isn’t just about being forgetful or distracted. It’s a neurological condition that can affect focus, emotional regulation, time management and how someone processes the World around them. For those of us in care roles, understanding ADHD is more than awareness, it’s empathy in action.

Whether we're supporting clients with ADHD or colleagues who live with it, compassion and flexibility make all the difference. Small changes, like clear communication, consistent routines, visual reminders, or simply creating a safe space to be heard can help someone with ADHD thrive, not just cope.

If you care for someone with ADHD, here’s how you can help:

• Be patient with repetition or distraction - it's not intentional.
• Break down tasks into smaller steps.
• Use visual schedules or alarms to support structure.
• Celebrate effort, not just outcomes.
• Don’t take overwhelm personally, it’s often internal, not about you.

ADHD doesn't make anyone less capable, it just means we navigate the World a little differently. In the right environment, with the right understanding, we can do incredible things!

Let’s raise awareness, reduce stigma, and keep creating care environments where neurodiversity is supported and respected.
