"I am my own invention" (my mantra in life) and you are your own invention too. This is my third reincarnation of myself professionally and I'm sure it won't be the last. Since I made the jump from a 16-year career as a chartered accountant & tax advisor to the world of health and wellness I've never looked back. Female Fitness Matters was born out of the desire to educate myself, and others, on the importance of female fitness, wellbeing and pelvic health during pregnancy and postnatal recovery. Believing deeply that every woman deserves to feel good about her body and to move freely without pain, leaking or concerns over abdominal strength I had an amazing time helping thousands of women across South Birmingham and Solihull to stay active during pregnancy, to recover post birth & to build their much needed tribes. And I thank them all for trusting me and for helping me to grow. (Much love to Jenny & the HCR® massive for this growth too)

Fast-forward a few years...I'm older (maybe wiser), perimenopausal and it's become increasingly apparent that women have never had more on their plates. And in a world where we’ve never had more information about health and wellness, we’ve never been less healthy and well. Why aren't we prioritising ourselves and what truly matters to us? So here I am...going deeper. Wanting to still help women to look and feel good, but with a real focus now on facilitating sustainable change that really speaks to the heart of what matters. More joy, more ease, more freedom and more fun. For more details about please go to www.femalefitnessmatters.co.uk or drop me a line at femalefitnessmatters@gmail.com or on 07970 287043.

January can be the point where good intentions meet real life.

The plan was solid.
Motivation was there.
And then… tiredness, weather, busy weeks, missed workouts, skipped meals.

If you’ve felt yourself wobble already, here’s the reminder I keep coming back to:

Progress isn’t about perfect weeks. It’s about returning.

Most people set habits based on who they are on a great day.
But real change is built on your hard days — when you do something rather than nothing.

A shorter walk still counts.
A simpler meal still counts.
Lowering the minimum doesn’t lower your standards — it raises your consistency.

Perfection isn’t the goal. Direction is.

You will drift. You will miss days.
That’s not failure — it’s feedback.

The people who make lasting change aren’t the most disciplined.
They’re the ones who correct gently and keep going.

1% better consistently beats 100% perfect for a week. Always.

If you’re feeling stuck — in your body, your habits, or your head — I currently have a couple of spaces available for 1:1 work (in person or online).

Some people come for exercise and nutrition support.
Others need a space to talk things through.
Many don’t know which they need yet — and that’s okay.

If this resonates, feel free to message me.

When the goal is clear, the details don't have to be perfect.

I could spend from now until 26 April spiralling about the "right" plan, the "right" trainers, the "right" pace, the "right" fuel, the "right" recovery.

It's not that those things don't matter - it's just that getting my runs in is what actually matters right now. Building the base. Creating momentum. And the simplicity and clarity that brings is powerful.

Indecision and perfectionism are costly. They drain energy, delay action and keep you stuck. Direction does the opposite - it simplifies, focuses and builds momentum.

If you’re looking ahead to 2026 feeling unsure or paralysed by too many options, you're not alone. You don’t need to have it all figured out. One clear direction is enough to start changing how you show up.

What’s one goal you want your decisions to start aligning around in 2026?

It doesn’t have to be a marathon — it just has to be clear enough to move you forward.

And if you need help with this, please do get in touch.

This season isn’t about doing everything or getting it “right.”
It’s about feeling safe, connected and cared for — whatever that looks like in your home.

For some families, Christmas is excitement and sparkle.
For others, it’s quieter rhythms, predictable plans, or sensory-friendly moments.
And for many this year, it’s navigating joy and grief at the same time.

There is no single version of “Christmas done properly.”
There’s just the version that supports your needs, honours your heart, and keeps your family regulated and loved.

If your holidays look different this year — simpler, slower, softer — they’re not less magical.
They’re yours.
And that is enough. 🤍✨

✨ Finding your voice matters.

For so many people — especially those with dyslexia — sharing thoughts or opinions publicly can feel risky. When words don’t come easily, and how you communicate has been judged before, it’s understandable that speaking up might feel unsafe.

That’s why I love this from Jamie Oliver — a reminder that every voice deserves to be heard.

He’s supporting the British Dyslexia Association's “Voice” petition, which calls not only for greater understanding and support for people with dyslexia, but also highlights something much bigger — the need to overhaul a SEND system that isn’t serving the families it was designed to help.

Every child should be celebrated for their strengths, not made to feel “less than” for thinking, learning, or communicating differently. We need a system that builds confidence, not conformity.

If you’ve ever felt like you had to stay quiet for fear of being misunderstood or criticised, this message is for you. 💛

🎧 Watch Jamie’s video below...
✍️ And if it resonates, please consider adding your voice to the petition.

If President Trump truly cared about the neurodivergent community, his focus wouldn’t be on scare-mongering pregnant women with unproven claims about paracetamol.

There is no solid scientific evidence for his statement — but there is a very real impact: piling guilt and scrutiny onto women’s bodies, while doing nothing to support autistic people or their families.

Real care looks like funding research, providing resources, and building a society that celebrates and supports neurodiversity.

Which makes you wonder: is this really about children’s wellbeing, or is it yet another attempt to undermine women’s autonomy and tighten control over our choices? Or something even darker?

"We are concerned by the multiple recent inaccurate claims from the Trump administration. These claims are not only stigmatising, but they are a distraction and act as an impediment to progress.

"As a group of charities that exist to make the world better for autistic people, we want to see governments focusing on following high-quality evidence to help autistic people thrive instead of focusing on disproven theories."

We have issued a joint statement with leading UK autism charities in response to the Trump administration's latest claims about autism.

“I feel the need… the need for speed.”

(Sadly though, speed is one thing I was never built for 😂)

I’m 26 training runs into my marathon prep for Autistica and I just want to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who’s donated, shared, or cheered me on so far. Your support means the world—and it’s the only reason I’m still willingly doing intervals and hill sprints in public.

Autistica is doing incredible work to support the neurodivergent community—funding research, raising awareness, and helping create a more inclusive world. I’m proud to be running for them… even if I do it with the pace and grace of someone being chased by a mildly annoyed duck.

👉 If you haven’t donated yet and feel moved to support the cause (or just enjoy picturing me running from said duck), you can do so here:

Every donation, big or small, makes a real difference.

Thanks again for all the love—please keep it coming! 💙

I’m running the London Marathon 2026 for a future that better understands neurodivergence...

Like so many families, we’ve been on a journey. We stepped into parenthood pretty uninformed about neurodivergence, clueless about the broken SEND system, and blind to the battles so many families face daily while advocating for their children.

And so many of the women I work with — especially those in perimenopause — are only now recognising signs of neurodivergence that were missed or misdiagnosed for decades. Gender, hormones, and masking all play a role in how neurodivergence is expressed — and too often, misunderstood.

And therein lies the problem. This lack of understanding leads to devastating statistics around mental health and su***de in neurodivergent communities — even before you factor in the additional impact of gender, race, and other intersecting experiences. No one should spend their life hiding their true self, feeling lesser, broken, or pathologised.

I want to be part of a future where neurodivergent people are not only supported but celebrated — not in spite of who they are, but because of it. And because the world is a better place for it.

Autistica’s work speaks directly to that vision. Their focus on mental health, long-term outcomes, and community-led research is transformative. They’re not just advancing science — they’re helping shape a world that listens more, understands better, and supports more fully. And I’m so proud to be running the London Marathon in 2026 to raise funds for them. (I’ll also be taking on a series of other fundraising challenges in the lead-up — more on those soon!)

If you’re able to support me, THANK YOU. Every donation — however small — every share, and every word of encouragement matters. As someone who came last (or was terrible!) in almost every race or sport growing up — and who only took up running in her 40s — this is going to be a physical and mental challenge far bigger than it may look. Don’t be fooled by my PT background! But I’m nothing if not determined 😉 and my sights are firmly set on both the fundraising target and that finish line next April.

Together, we can help create a world where no one has to fight so hard just to be understood.

Like so many families, we’ve been on a journey. We stepped into parenthood pretty uninformed about neurodivergence, clueless about the broken SEND system, and blind to the battles so many families fac

🧠✨I’ve officially qualified as an Advanced AuDHD Coach with ADHD Works ✨🧠

Over the last few months, I’ve been deepening my understanding of how to support clients with ADHD and autism—especially those navigating the unique challenges of having traits from both.

It’s reinforced my belief that everyone deserves support that meets their brain where it’s at—whether that brain is neurodivergent or not—but especially when it is.

Many of the women I work with are masking their authentic selves, navigating overwhelm, burnout, self-sabotage, perfectionism or procrastination—not always realising that some of this might be tied to how their brain is wired.

Typically what’s needed isn’t more pressure, but more permission. More understanding of how their brain works, and more support to make changes in a way that actually sticks.

I’m proud of the space I’m continuing to build: grounded, validating, and spacious enough to hold people in all their realness—messy, brilliant and everything in between—and one where real-life change is possible.

Because we all know that meaningful change happens when people feel seen, supported, and safe enough to explore new ways of doing things.

A bit about me

Taking two years to conceive my eldest daughter and finally becoming a mom was life changing, as it is for any woman, but it really focused my mind on wanting to lead a lifestyle that maximises my chances of being around for my family for as long as possible.

It’s also made me determined to be a positive role model to my girls growing up in a world obsessed with looks, dieting, technology and searching for a ‘cure’ to needing to exercise. I want them to grow up feeling comfortable in their own skin, knowledgeable about their bodies and empowered to make positive choices for themselves and their health.

A 16-year career in professional services with PwC, however, left me lacking some of the building blocks to achieve these aims – particularly the ones around C-section recovery and how best to strengthen my body post baby. And Google was no help at all, continually serving up conflicting and often inaccurate information.

The lifelong learner in me rubbed her hands in delight, therefore, when I decided to use my maternity leave to get the facts for myself at “PT school” and by studying advanced women’s health and fitness qualifications with Burrell Education.
