Acupuncture might look intimidating… but it’s not what most people expect.

The needles are very fine, nowhere near the size of injection needles, and they only go into the top layer of the muscle.

You’ll usually just feel a small pinprick as it goes in that’s it.

It’s a simple, controlled treatment we use to help with pain, tension, and recovery.

If you’ve been unsure about it, hopefully this gives you a better idea of what to expect 👍

Worried that treatment might be painful?

A bit of discomfort can happen during physio especially when we’re moving joints or working into tight areas. It doesn’t mean damage is being done, it’s just your body reacting to something it’s not used to.

That soreness usually settles within a day or two, sometimes a little longer depending on how your body responds.

Everyone’s different, which is why we always adjust treatment to suit you.

If anything ever feels like too much, just let us know it’s a conversation, not something you have to push through.

So what actually is 5 Element Acupuncture?

It’s based on five elements - water, wood, fire, earth, and metal.
We all have a mix of these, but sometimes one can fall out of balance.

Often, that imbalance starts early on and shapes how your body responds to stress, pain, and everyday life.

5 Element Acupuncture is about identifying that imbalance and working to bring your body back into a more natural state of balance.

It’s a different approach - but for the right person, it can make a real difference.

We’ve now introduced 5 Element Acupuncture at Physio Health Matters, based at Warwick University.

If you’re looking for a more holistic approach to pain, stress, or overall wellbeing - this could be a great option for you.

Sports massage or physio - which one do you actually need?

If you’re just feeling tight, sore, or recovering from a tough session… sports massage can do the job and help you bounce back quicker.

But if there’s actual pain, something that keeps coming back, or it’s just not improving - that’s where physio comes in.

That’s when you need to look at the root cause, not just the symptoms.

Both have their place - it just depends what your body’s telling you.

09/04/2026

If you’ve been managing a ni**le for a while… you don’t have to just put up with it.

Whether it’s something that’s been bothering you in the gym, at work, or day to day - we’re here to help you figure out what’s going on and get you moving comfortably again.

No pressure, no judgement - just a proper assessment and a plan that works for you.

Whenever you’re ready, we’re here 👍

Great to be part of the very first Race the Plane at Birmingham Airport ✈️

A full day of teams coming together, pushing themselves, and raising money for Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital - all while racing a real flight… on bikes.

Events like this are what it’s all about for us.
Keeping people moving, supporting performance, and being part of something bigger than just the clinic.

Big shoutout to everyone who took part - serious effort all round 👏

The NHS defines menopause as 12 months without a period… that’s when you’re officially in it.

But in clinic, I see how much confusion there is around what that actually means for your body.

My role isn’t just to explain it - it’s to assess where you’re at, build something that works for you, and guide you through it properly.

Teaching you how to move, how to train, and how to keep progressing as things change.

Because you shouldn’t have to figure it out on your own.
