Q: How do I manage pain and swelling after hip surgery?

A: Managing pain and swelling after hip surgery is an important part of your recovery. Take your pain medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor to stay comfortable and support healing.

Apply ice packs to the affected area for 15–20 minutes at a time, several times a day, to help reduce swelling. Rest with your legs elevated whenever possible, as this can also ease discomfort and minimise fluid buildup.

For personalised advice and professional support during your recovery, contact Estuary Physio today and let our team guide you safely back to mobility.

🥊 Boxing Foundations – Training Stance in Sitting

Not every client can complete the boxing foundations in standing - but that doesn’t mean they can’t take part.

Every element can be adapted for sitting. Boxing in sitting is a powerful way to work on postural control, core stability, and dynamic sitting balance while keeping sessions purposeful and engaging.

Even without standing, clients can still practise guard position, weight shift, rhythm and coordination - all key ingredients for functional stability and confidence. It’s not about limitation, it’s about adaptation - keeping movement meaningful and achievable for everyone.

🥊 Boxing isn’t just a physical workout — it’s a powerful brain workout too.

Here’s why it’s so effective for people with neurological conditions:

🧠 Boosts Neuroplasticity
The fast, purposeful movements in boxing help the brain create and strengthen new neural pathways. This is key for improving movement, coordination, and everyday function.

👣 Engages Motor + Cognitive Pathways
Boxing blends footwork, timing, coordination, and decision-making - all at once.
This combination challenges both body and brain, making the training especially beneficial for conditions like Parkinson’s.

💪 High-Intensity, Varied Movement
Short bursts of high-intensity activity stimulate the nervous system and support motor learning - helping improve balance, strength, and reaction speed.

This is why boxing is becoming a favourite in neurological physiotherapy.

Ready to try it? Explore our Neuro Move Academy boxing sessions for safe, non-contact, physiotherapist-led training.

Did You Know?

People with Parkinson’s can improve their balance and reduce their risk of falls with just a few minutes of targeted exercises each day - even in the early stages.

Simple movements such as heel-to-toe walking, sit-to-stand practice, and gentle weight shifting help retrain the brain and build stability.

Starting early makes the biggest difference - but it’s never too late to begin.

Small, consistent steps = better confidence, better balance.
