Decided to roll the dice and take a chance on the ankle games.

A pretty unique event in that the initial race was just a pre qualify for the main race. A brutal all out race vs the other top 5 teams.

After not doing much of this style training whilst working towards Ironman Italy in 3 weeks, we took the first part a little easier. But the 2nd part was much different, a head to head race like that will always bring out the old competitor in me, full gas, no brakes.

2nd overall with my racing partner .fitness , just nipped at the finish line to some very strong competitors.

Must admit the standard was seriously high for a local comp and that was really good to see.

But beyond that, it was also incredible to see the athletes of all abilities and everyone just giving everybody such encouragement. Fitness has this unique way of bringing everyone together and giving platforms to raise each other up, even after all these years of being in the game, it’s still so incredible to see. There was 80 teams of winners on the day, + all the volunteers and exhibitors 👏.

My tribe supporting as always 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒.

A great event and really well ran, kudos to the TC60 team.

Great to see some of our equipment on also 🔥

Huge thanks to both and for the 📸

“It can’t be the Ironman in 3 weeks time 💭 “

The clock is ticking, the training availability seems to be getting a lot more challenging.

A far from ideal prep, but when is it ever?

Still looking forward to toeing the line in Italy.

The ankle is still getting better every week 🤞

I recently got asked a question…….

“How has the Core Group ( ) grown so much in the last 24 months?”

It got me thinking…………

I responded, because “we are just really good at what we do”

Business has changed so much over the last 5 years. You can be bad at something, have a bad product or deliver a bad service, but well marketed you might do alright. It’s the power of media these days.

Truth be told, there’s no longevity in something like that. You have to continuously search for new business, put out fires, solve issues, try and “reinvent the wheel”.

The core group is now consulting with some of the biggest most exciting fitness developments on the planet, working and delivering some of the best functional fitness spaces to some of the biggest corporate names in the world and rapidly growing one of the biggest face to face and online communities.

All the above hasn’t come off the back of words or statements, it’s come off the back of doing, practising what our brand preaches, doing the do, walking the walk, learning our trade through exposure to real stimulus.

This point has taken nearly 16 years, and we’re just getting started 🚀.

Training weekend in the life of a HYRonman.

Saturday

AM - coreHYBRID . Top end zone 3 with some zone 4, working on hyrox capacity under fatigue. Serious fun, as always my favourite session of the week.

PM - longish run with 6 x 6 minute tempo efforts. Holding around 6:30s on the efforts creaping slightly over LT1, but making sure to stay under in the 4 minute rests.

Sunday

Zone 1 ride - NP 207 watts - avg HR 113 bpm.

OTB run - 45 mins top end aerobic (LT1), 6:40 minute mile pace with an avg HR 149 bpm.

Total time 7hrs 38mins
Active calories burnt 6838

One more big weekend before the peaking begins.

5 weeks till Ironman Italy 🏊‍♂️ 🚲 🏃‍♂️

Better late then never.

A week on from a great family holiday with the Bloor and Bovill clan.

A strong family is the foundation of true happiness—where love begins and support never ends.

Thats the first block of hyrox “pre season” and the Ironman build done ✅

Increased volume, lower intensity.

I’ve pushed the body in this block, whilst also trying to recover from a serious injury, but I’ve also pushed myself mentally. The Core Group is going through a serious phase of growth and combining this with training like an elite athlete and being a parent to young children, it’s a hell of a lot of physical and mental stress, a deload week is well and truly needed.

There’s been very little hyrox specificity, apart from the sessions .

How do I know a rest is needed?

Firstly, it’s how I feel, I feel sore, unable to push hard now even if I tried and just getting up in the morning seems hard work some days, but it’s what i planned before the block started - I planned to push to this point, everything was calculated.

Secondly, I closely monitor training load and stress and I know over the last few years, when my form drops below -30 I’m generally in a bit of bother, I’ve dipped into -40 in recent weeks.

Finally, we purposely looked into my bloods at the end of this block. CK levels were up and my testosterone : cortisol ratio was somewhat out - all signs of really high fatigue.

To stress and push fitness we have to take things out of equilibrium, that’s when it becomes even more important to recover. I’ve arrived in Spain with the family, and will deload the body but still do some training. My next bloods will be done at a different period of the build, it will be interesting data to compare to this period. Thanks again to for the insights.

What a day.

Started off with the South Cave 10km. A huge turnout from and many of my athletes also toeing the line. Too many PBs and new runners to mention but so proud of them all. We had trophy winners and also first time completers. This team is 🔥.

Special highlight for me was pacing my wife and our great friend and core gym yoga instructor to their first 10k. They were both unreal.

And then onto Leeds to support my Ironman athletes. They all smashed it too some incredible performances on a really tough track.

As always, this weekend reminds me of why we do it.

An incredible group of human beings just progressing and all getting better.

All at different stages of their journeys.

All athletes.

All finding a way.

Our mission is gaining serious momentum 🚂 💨.

PS the pictures don’t do it justice as we had many who had to dash off after the race. Overall between the core group we had nearly 50 competing in one weekend 👏

I am extremely pleased to announce our partnership with .

Stonegate medical is a private medical clinic. They will be supporting us throughout the year looking at baseline physical performance measures and blood work taken at the various stages of our season to see what’s happening under the hood in our attempt to peak next summer.

This is a really exciting partnership as it aligns with our mission of finding ways to increase longevity and performance and help with those small percentage gains. A healthy athlete is a performing athlete and we want to be in position to absorb the training as best we can.

Currently we are in our Hyrox off season and the main focus is on aerobic capacity and base work. This will culminate by taking part in Ironman Italy before we enter some Hyrox build periods.

We thank Stonegates Medical team for reaching out and we look forward to working together over the next 12 months.

Longest workout in a very long time.

Ironman Italy got off to a pretty bad start, but I’m starting to find a bit of rythm and have still managed to put together a decent 3 week build despite only running 14 miles in that period.

Todays workout I just wanted to get time in the saddle and see how my legs felt off the bike whilst running aerobically. This was my first proper brick session and the legs seemed to remember what to do 🤣. Maybe the hyrox fitness did help 🤷‍♂️.

For the data geeks 👇🏻

🚴‍♂️4 hours 25 - normalised power 220 watts which is a fair bit below what I’ll aim to hold in 9 weeks time. 🏃‍♂️4 miles, 7:03m/mile 149BPM.

In performance coaching they’re is always more then one way to get to a goal, however you still need to have an understanding of the overall stimulus you are trying to create - I’ve used whatever I can to get the aerobic work in and volume up. Ergs and burpee volume has increased a fair amount. The program is keeping up my vo2, conditioning and strength.

If nothing else in this Ironman Prep, I know I am building a huge aerobic base for a big Hyrox season.

I have some exciting news to share next week regarding a new sponsor which will hopefully help me get the most out of the next few years, it’s a part of my training, performance and health that I’ve never truly explored - I’m excited for that.
