Most of us know that vitamin C and vitamin E are “antioxidants” that help to protect our bodies from the harm caused by free radicals - which can lead to inflammation and many forms of disease, if they build up too much in the body.
Some free radicals are produced naturally by the body, and are essential for normal cell function. However, pollutants and toxins in our environment and our diets lead to the build up of other, harmful free radicals - and it is these harmful molecules for which hydrogen is such a useful tool in the pursuit of optimal health.
Unlike other antioxidants, hydrogen has the ability to distinguish between the beneficial and the harmful free radicals, and therefore it poses no risk of ‘overdosing’ and removing important, naturally-produced free radicals. Moreover, since hydrogen is the smallest molecule in the universe, it can pe*****te through cell membranes, and even through the blood/brain barrier , unlike other antioxidants . Once inside the cells, hydrogen targets the unstable, harmful free radicals and combines with them to make water, which is then removed from the body in the form of urine or sweat.
