I'm liking this analogy from The Physio Crew regarding arthritis!

One of the most damaging beliefs I hear from people with hip arthritis is this:

“Is it just bone on bone now?”

So let me reframe it.

I often ask patients to think of their hip like a road.

Over time, roads change.
They get cracks.
They get potholes.
They get uneven surfaces.

But the human body is not a road. You are made of organic material which can adapt and change.

Hip arthritis describes change, not collapse.

And yet so many people stop moving because they’ve been told — directly or indirectly — that their joint is “worn out”.

Here’s the truth:

joints are designed to be used
movement maintains joint health
strength supports and protects the hip

Avoiding movement is like blocking the road and hoping it repairs itself.

Physiotherapy isn’t about forcing the joint.
It’s about resurfacing the system around it:

improving muscle support
restoring confidence
managing load intelligently

Your hip isn’t failing.
It’s adapting to time, life, and use.

And with the right guidance, that road can stay open —
for walking, training, living, and enjoying life — far longer than you’ve been led to believe.

Arthritis isn’t the end of the road.
It’s a sign to maintain it properly.

I've taken this from a site based in Dorset called Totaltherapy, I hope it will help my clients decide between sports therapy and sports massage when booking an appointment. I don't do shockwave therapy yet but hope to within the next 12 months. Some Sports therapists and some sports massage therapists may do more depending on their background and extra training, but its always good to check qualifications etc.
