This weekend I’ve been on practical training in myofascial release for the face, neck, and shoulders—a technique I’ve been particularly interested in for some time because of how effective it can be, and how beautifully it can complement traditional Thai massage.
I’ve previously trained in myofascial release, but this weekend gave me the opportunity to deepen my knowledge with Amanda Oswald from Pain Care Clinic, Edinburgh, who brings over 18 years of experience in this field. I’m incredibly grateful for the knowledge, insight, and hands-on experience she generously shared.
I also had the pleasure of meeting so many inspiring professionals throughout the workshop, and it was especially lovely to be partnered with Claire from , who is also specialising in myofascial release in Milnathort if you want to experience the full MFR treatment with her, she’s not far from SQ at all.
📚 What is myofascial release?
Myofascial release is a gentle hands-on technique that works with the body’s fascia—the connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles, nerves, and organs. When fascia becomes tight or restricted due to stress, posture, injury, or repetitive strain, it can contribute to pain, tension, and reduced movement. By applying sustained, targeted pressure, myofascial release helps restore mobility, ease discomfort, and encourage the body to move more freely.
So for some of you who come in with shoulder, neck, or jaw tension, don’t be surprised if I incorporate some of these techniques into your treatment. ✨
