As I approach my graduation and the end of my journey as a trainee, it’s only right to take time to reflect and review.

I can recall my first interaction with Benedict and Duncan they mentioned the journey a lot. I didn’t realise what that meant for me at that time. I remember feeling as if they knew me and the facilitator I would become, they had faith in me even though I doubted myself.

I’ve had some challenges along the way the most difficult one was dealing with grief, there were times I thought I would give up, but I kept going one step at a time.

I’ve had some great experiences and met wonderful people. Doing my first online group Breathwork session for Breathing Space there were approximately 20 people online from all over the world, it was certainly a wow moment and something I will never forget. I was nervous but had a massive sense of achievement once the session ended. The 121’s I facilitated at Slaley Hall were very special to me as they were my first and everyone said they felt relaxed and chilled.

As for the grief it never goes away however I’ve had counselling which has helped me lots. The waiting lists for counselling are very long, it’s made me feel as if I should give something back and specialise in grief and emotional release. My Breathwork journey continues I’m sure it will have as many challenges and successes. I’m excited to see what the future brings.

Journey so far...

When I started the Breathwork Facilitator course everyone said it’s going to be a journey. What does that mean? I have some thoughts is it getting from A to B, twists and turns in the road, detours or roadblocks. Could it be stopping somewhere on route and taking in some beautiful scenery. Is it planning the journey, how do I get to B. And that everyone has been my journey so far, all of the above. It’s life.

I suffer a lot with Imposter Syndrome, it can make me anxious, I can have self-doubt and have no faith in my ability. It can make me second guess myself and often be unkind…to me. So far on this journey I’ve experienced all of that which made me ask myself the question. Who am I? I’ve been doing a lot of work on myself, doing research, reading books and writing my journal. I’ve been on a Reiki Ramble and a Yoga Retreat (Blogs to follow).

I recently read a book called Insanely Gifted by Jamie Catto he talks about getting rid of the labels we give ourselves. He says we should give ourselves permission slips to just be you, what ever emotion that is and without labelling it, for example grief. By giving the emotion a label “grief”, it gives it another meaning and every time we experience that emotion, we instantly say it’s grief. I completed some of the exercises in the book, one triggered me, it was like a bolt of lightning very unexpected. I can’t recall what it was I just know I burst into tears but instead of saying its grief I tried to pinpoint what could have caused the emotion, I road mapped memories to get to the root feeling and why. I used my breath, remained calm and delved deep. The result was a WTF moment, it was something that I didn’t even realise I was bothered about, it was a long time ago. I gave myself and the emotion some time to be processed and heal. I will say when you are doing this type of self help be aware of how you are feeling and ensure you have additional support in place.

I’m so proud of myself for doing the work I can see I’ve changed and made improvements. I have acknowledged my feelings and admitted “that today I’m sad” I’ve not labelled it and I’ve took a day off work instead of just getting on with things. I have more conversations with my family and friends about how I’m feeling, and I’ve been honest with myself. I’ve started to take ownership of my health and wellbeing. I’ve self-referred for counselling with my doctor, I’ve had a health check and I’ve listened to my body.

I’m often focused on the end goal and not the journey. I’ve realised it can be challenging going on detours, hitting roadblocks or bumps on life’s roads but it can make for a more interesting journey. I know this scary, wonderful journey is going to develop and shape me into the best person and Breathwork Facilitator I can be.
