Did you know that breast screening is the best way to detect breast cancers early, when they are more easily treatable and before any signs or symptoms appear. So even if you feel fit and healthy, it’s really important that you still attend when invited.

Having a mammogram is nothing to worry about. It’s quick and easy and only takes 10 minutes and the friendly staff are on hand if you do have any concerns. So if you’re a women aged between 50-71, look out for your invitation letter coming through the post (every 3 years) and please, don’t ignore it, it could save your life. Important Notice: Closure of our Branch Surgery at Flagg Court !

In February 2025, we told you we might close our Flagg Court branch. We asked your thoughts before making a decision. Thank you to everyone who filled in our survey or came to a drop-in.
Your feedback was part of our application to close the branch. This was sent to North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB). They have now approved our application to close the branch. Our branch surgery at Flagg Court, Dale Street, South Shields w ill close permanently on Tuesday 30th September 2025. This will help us run more smoothly and improve our services.

You do not need to do anything. You will still be registered with Central Surgery. Your records will not change. You can still contact us on the normal phone number- 0191 4554621. You can still use GP services at our main Central Surgery site - Cleadon Park Primary Care Centre, Prince Edward Road, South Shields, NE34 7QD.

If you do not want to stay with Central Surgery, you can register with a different GP practice. You will need to live within their boundary. You can find details of local GP practices at the following Find a GP' link: www.nhs.uk/service-search/find-a-GP

If you want to speak to someone independent, you can contact Healthwatch South Tyneside. Today we have had our new telephone system installed. From today you will notice a change in the queue options when you dial us. After listening to feedback, we are hoping this change will make it easier for patients to access our telephone lines, as the queue capacity is not cut off at a certain number of callers, meaning patients will no longer have to keep re-dialling to get in the phone queue. This may mean at busier times of the day your queue position may seem higher than your used to. Please bare with us over the upcoming days whilst our Receptionists navigate this change.

People looking after someone with dementia are encouraged to complete this Herbert Protocol form and keep it to give to the police should the person they care for ever go missing.
By having information to hand, it can save the worry of trying to recall information during a stressful time and saves time for the police, allowing the search to start sooner.
It should be kept up to date with a recent photograph of the person.

The practice will close from 12.30pm on Thursday the 17th October and will reopen again on Friday the 18th at 8am for staff training. During this time there will be no telephone lines or reception.
