S Walton Eyecare Independent Community Opticians Practice. Established in 1926, it was re-opened by its present owner, Optometrist Kaye Winship in 2007.

S Walton Eyecare is a community centred, family focused independent opticians practice, located at 515 Stanhope Road, South Shields. The practice offers eye examinations, contact lens assessments and fittings, the provision of spectacles, contact lenses, magnifiers and accessories. Within the first two years of opening the practice was the recipient of two prestigious awards from The Entrepreneurs Forum and South Tyneside Enterprise Partnership.

Our Story

S Walton Eyecare is a community centred, family focused, independent opticians based on Stanhope Road, South Shields.

The practice was first opened by Sidney Walton founded in 1926. He also had a photography shop, a chemist and a chiropodist on the same street. He was joined by Herbert Marsden in 1956 who later took on sole ownership of the practice. In 2006, Herbert was the oldest practicing Optometrist in the UK.

Kaye Winship is the current owner of S Walton Eyecare. She acquired and refurbished the practice in 2007. The name S Walton has been retained to reflect the heritage of the site.
