Why Do Our Reception Team Ask What Your Appointment Is For?

We understand that some patients feel uncomfortable being asked about the reason for their appointment when they contact the practice. We would like to explain why our reception team ask these questions and how it helps us provide you with the best possible care.

Our reception staff are trained to ask a small number of questions so they can make sure patients are booked with the most appropriate clinician or service. This is not about being nosey – it is about helping you get the right care, at the right time, from the right healthcare professional.

For example:

• Foot or lower limb problems may be better managed by our Podiatrist
• Shoulder, back, joint or muscle pain may be more appropriately seen by our Physiotherapist
• Medication queries, blood pressure reviews or routine checks may be managed by our Nursing or Pharmacy team

By directing patients to the most suitable clinician first, we can:

• Ensure patients are seen more quickly
• Ensure you see the most suitable clinician for your condition first time
• Ensure access to GP appointments for doctor-specific conditions
• Provide a more efficient and effective service for everyone

Our GP Partners have asked reception staff to help patients access the correct service, and all reception team members are trained to handle your information professionally, sensitively and confidentially.

You are never expected to give detailed personal information, but providing a brief description of the problem helps us make sure you receive the most appropriate care as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

22/04/2026

Diabetic eye screening is an important part of diabetes care and helps protect your sight. Diabetes can damage the small blood vessels in the eyes, leading to a condition called diabetic retinopathy, which can cause vision loss if not detected early. Screening checks for early signs before you notice any changes, meaning treatment can start sooner and help prevent serious damage.

If you have diabetes and are aged 12 or over, you will usually be invited for screening every 1–2 years. The test is quick and involves taking photographs of the back of your eyes to check for any changes.

Attending your screening appointment can:
• Detect problems early before symptoms develop 👁️✨
• Help prevent or reduce sight loss 💙🩺
• Support long-term eye health as part of your diabetes care 🌿📊

Even if your vision feels fine, it’s important to attend when invited. 💙✨
