As we come to the end of the first month of 2026, we just wanted to say a big thank you to every corporate partner, workplace team and organisation that supported Solent Mind throughout 2025. 💙

Across the year, you gave your time, energy and resources in so many ways. From volunteering at events, taking part in challenge activities and running your own fundraising initiatives, to offering practical help such as painting, gardening, clearing spaces, donating items and providing free room hire, your support has helped us to create welcoming spaces for the people who access our services. 🛋️

You have helped to share our messages with wider audiences, provided vital sponsorship, loaned equipment when we needed it most and stood beside us at community events. Every contribution, big or small, has helped us reach more people and ensure that no one in Hampshire has to face a mental health problem alone.

Thank you for supporting us in 2025, offering your unique gifts to make a difference in your communities with enthusiasm and compassion. We're so grateful for your input so far, and look forward to continuing to work together in 2026. 🤝

From 1 February, Solent Mind’s Portsmouth Peer Support Service, currently run from the Wellbeing Centre in Arundel Street, is changing.

We’ve been commissioned by the NHS to focus on providing peer support to service users within the primary care remit. This means a shift in our focus from peer support groups to dedicated one-to-one sessions, working alongside NHS colleagues in local community spaces.

To ensure a joined-up approach, people looking to access support will need to follow a new referral pathway. In the future, please speak to your NHS mental health service about a referral or contact the Portsmouth Mental Health Hub on 0300 123 6621, Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm.

Many of us offer understanding and patience to the people around us, yet find it harder to extend the same compassion to ourselves. When work feels demanding or pressures build, self‑criticism can become a familiar voice. Learning how to respond with kindness instead can make a meaningful difference to our wellbeing. 💙

This February, our Workplace Wellbeing Training team is hosting a free online taster session: A brief introduction to self‑compassion. The session explores what self‑compassion looks like in practice, how it can support resilience at work, and simple techniques you can begin using straight away. ✅

It is suitable for anyone who wants to strengthen their wellbeing, whether you are supporting a team or looking after your own mental health.
Everyone deserves the chance to feel supported and understood, including ourselves. You are welcome to join us, whatever your role, background or experience.

To reserve your free place, visit www.solentmind.org/free-tasters

Steven kindly shared his experience of meeting Cathy, Intensive Engagement Support Worker for our Remind service, during a drop‑in session at Portsmouth Carers Centre. 💙

At a time when he felt overwhelmed, Cathy offered tailored, compassionate support that helped Steven, his mum and her care team break down the barriers to accessing training and information around dementia care. We're so grateful to Steven for sharing his story, talking about the impact that our service has had on him, his care team and his mum. 🧩

Remind supports people living with dementia and their carers across Portsmouth, offering practical guidance, personalised plans, Cognitive Stimulation Therapy, activity groups and signposting to local services.

If you or someone you support could benefit, you can find more information about Remind on our website: www.solentmind.org.uk/remind

Gina first came to Solent Mind as a teenager, when she was finding life overwhelming. The support she received at Mayfield Garden Centre helped her feel understood and less alone. 💙
Running has since become an important part of her life, supporting her mental wellbeing and helping her to feel grounded. After completing the 10k last year, Gina has now signed up for the half marathon at the 2026 ABP Southampton Marathon Festival to raise money for Solent Mind. 👟

If mental health has been part of your journey too, taking on a challenge for Solent Mind could make a real difference. Charity places for the 2026 event are now open.

You might see people talking about “Blue Monday” today, often described as the saddest day of the year. It’s worth remembering that "Blue Monday" didn’t come from mental health research, but from a marketing campaign. While it has since taken on a life of its own, there is no evidence that one particular day makes everyone feel low. 💙

Having said that, many of us do find this time of year tough. Shorter days, colder weather, financial pressure or feeling worn out after the holidays can all affect how we feel. Your feelings are valid every day of the year and please reach out for support if you need it. 🗨️

If today feels difficult, or if things have been feeling heavy for a while, Solent Mind is here to help. We can offer free, confidential support for anyone who needs someone to listen.

You can discover more about our services on the Solent Mind website - click here to find out more: www.solentmind.org.uk/support-for-you

Have you been overwhelmed by thoughts that feel self-critical? Try a little kindness towards yourself. 💙

We've created our very own self-compassion bingo sheet for you to have a go at. It’s a simple, playful way to remind yourself that small acts of care matter. From taking a mindful breath to letting go of comparison, each square encourages you to pause and treat yourself with the same compassion you’d offer a friend in the same situation. 🫴

Pick three activities to do today and notice how they make you feel. You can play along by yourself or with others – and remember the goal isn’t perfection, it’s progress.

Explore the bingo sheet and start your self-compassion journey here: www.solentmind.org.uk/self-compasion-bingo

We’re making it easier to stay up to date with your Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training by offering open sessions you can book onto as an individual. 💙

These open sessions mean you don’t need to attend with a whole team to refresh your skills or undertake MHFA training. They’re a flexible option for anyone who wants to build confidence in supporting people with their mental health at work. 🧑‍💻

Led by our Workplace Wellbeing Training Team, all sessions are supportive, practical and shaped by lived experience. Find out more and book your place at: www.solentmind.org.uk/training

As we begin the new year, we wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who fundraised for Solent Mind in 2025. 💙

From personal challenges to workplace events, so many of you gave your time, energy and generosity to help ensure people across Hampshire could access vital mental health and wellbeing support when they needed it most. Every pound raised has gone towards supporting our local services and the people who use them.

This includes Mike and Will (pictured) who both took on significant physical challenges, persevering through mental health issues and unforeseen barriers to raise funds for people like them who benefit from the mental health support Solent Mind provides.

We’re incredibly grateful to each and every fundraiser who chose to stand with us last year. Your commitment, resilience and compassion continue to make a real difference in our communities. 🌟

If you’re feeling inspired and would like to support Solent Mind in 2026, you can find out more about fundraising opportunities on our website.

Thinking about taking on a challenge in 2026? Run for Solent Mind and help us change lives this year. 👟

Daniel chose to run several major races for Solent Mind and joined us at Mental Elf in 2025. He told us:
“I never saw that sort of opportunity to get help and so I wanted to raise a lot of money to help other people's mental health.”
For Daniel, a marathon is more than a race – it’s a way to make sure no one faces a mental health problem alone. His advice for anyone considering the ABP Southampton Marathon Festival?
“Just go for it. There’s a variety of runners. If you don’t feel like running it, you can just fast walk it.” 💙

Whether you’re aiming for the 5k, 10k, half marathon or full marathon, every step you take helps us provide vital mental health support across Hampshire. 🏃‍➡️

Our Story

Starting in May 1964, we became part of a network of 124 local Minds in England and Wales which are independent charities. We have our own board of trustees, raise our own funds and tailor our support to the needs of people living in Hampshire.

Our approach ensures that people can trust Solent Mind to be on their side:

Open. We reach out to anyone who needs us.

Together. We’re stronger in partnership.
