What looked like a simple nail problem turned out to be much more than just onycholysis.
The patient came in believing the nail was simply lifting away from the nail bed.
However pain, throbbing and pressure sensitivity raised concern during assessment.
After careful cleaning a collection of pus and inflammation was discovered beneath the nail plate.
Cases like this are often linked to:
• prolonged pressure from safety boots
• tight footwear
• long nails
• repetitive microtrauma
This is why proper assessment matters.
Not every nail change is cosmetic and not every condition is as harmless as it first appears.
As a Foot Health Practitioner my role is not only to treat what is visible but also to recognise the signs that something deeper may be happening.
